Did You Know...

... that Volto was the first part of the current NFTO story?

Anna Hicks - Sian Stokes - Simon Brentford - Vana Parker - Catherine Anderson - Kate Lindsley
posted May 29th, 2019 - The recent coverage of teams transitioning back from indoor to outdoor training and competition began with the British national 4-way team NFTO and their first outdoor training camp in Empuriabrava, Spain.

A later NFTO update provided more details of the current lineup, which had its official starting point with only indoor training and competition at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2018. There was still a missing piece in the evolution of the current lineup that needs to be added to complete the NFTO picture in 2019.

Point Catherine Anderson had stepped back into the alternate slot after the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018 in Australia, and Kate Lindsley joined NFTO for the FAI Indoor World Meet in Bahrain less than three weeks later.

Kate Lindsley competed at each of the four indoor meets that NFTO has attended after the outdoor world meet, including the Wind Games in January, where Satori XL member Julia Swallow filled in for Vana Parker who was not available for the meet.

Volto/NFTO at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2018 - Volition at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2017
Volition: Claire Scott, Sian Stokes, Liz Matthews, Kate Lindsley
The earlier NFTO update with more details of the new lineup focused mostly on the two latest team members, Sian Stokes and Kate Lindsley. Founding member Anna Hicks (2015) and Vana Parker have been training and competing together since 2016.

The missing piece was an indoor competition where the complete current indoor and outdoor lineup had their first competition experiences together - almost a year before the official commitment. It was the FAI European Indoor Championship in April 2018 where Anna Hicks, Vana Parker, Sian Stokes and Kate Lindsley won the silver medals after an extra round and the necessary tie-breaking calculations.

They competed under a different name in Norway, as the team members did not have final NFTO plans at that time. Anna Hicks and Vana Parker were getting ready for their 2018 season with Catherine Anderson and Debbie Lamsley, while Sian Stokes and Kate Lindsley came out of their second year with indoor team Volition, silver medalist at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2017. At that time, Volto was just a combination of the two team names without any serious plans for the near future.

However, NFTO member Vana Parker said that NFTO had actually set up the team project with two different lineups, one for indoor training and competition, the other one for outdoors. Volto was supposed to become NFTO's indoor lineup in a similar way as Volition had focused only on indoor training and competition. Catherine Anderson and Debbie Lamsley were neither available for the FAI European Indoor Championship 2018 nor for the FAI Indoor World Cup 2018, two events where NFTO wanted to be present.

NFTO was also considering an active lineup with five team members to release some of the pressure of intensive indoor and outdoor training.

However, NFTO eventually merged the two lineups, and Kate Lindsley became the 2018 alternate for indoor and outdoor training and competition.

Kate Lindsley and Catherine Anderson have switched their slots now. Kate Lindsley has taken the point slot, and Catherine Anderson is the alternate. The new NFTO lineup take on indoor and outdoor competition both, while their prime opponents in France have separated indoor and outdoor lineups in 4-way Women. However, outdoor competition comes first this year, and NFTO have a plan that the NSL News explained on May 14th...
