Did You Know...

... that British and Finnish teams have their internal showdown at the World Challenge 2019?

Tempo from Finland at the World Challenge 2019
posted Apr 5th, 2019 - The latest two NSL Live TV clips from the World Challenge 2019 covered the very last training sessions on Thursday evening, and Round 1 on Friday morning.

It was not really training for the competition any longer on Thursday evening. The last flying sessions are a part of the official competition package and are dedicated to each team's specific air speed. The "Speed Test" rounds define the specific air speed that each team will use for the ten competition rounds.

Not all teams use the Speed Test flying time for a final and last check. The teams who have been training at the event site earlier know their air speed well and submit it to the flight management after their last flying sessions. Only the teams who did not have the opportunity to familiarize with the flying chamber and its specifics have their last chance the night before to get well prepared for Round 1.

The host reserves the "Speed Test" flying time for each team at the night before the competition, and there are open slots if teams prefer to rest rather than flying speed test rounds. The open time slots are eagerly pursued by teams who feel not prepared well enough, and they gratefully use the additional flying time. Blackjack from Finland were able to "hijack" two additional time lots as one example for the flying time exchanges.

It was a good deal for Blackjack, as they needed every minute to get ready for the next showdown with their Finnish opponent Tempo. The NSL News covered the history of the Blackjack reunion on 2 April 2017. The Finnish national 4-way team (Pro Team) has been out of reach for Blackjack ever since the exciting comeback last year. However, Tempo has also been making Blackjack's 4-way life and an easy comeback much more difficult than it could have been expected.

Blackjack attended a few meets in lower competition categories before going back to AAA Class competition, while Tempo had a more consistent progression over the four years of the team's 4-way career. Finally, both teams ended up together on the recent AAA Class leaderboards, after Tempo won the World Challenge 2018 in the AA Class and moved up.

Both teams from Finland are now tied in 19th place after Round 6 at the World Challenge 2019, and both teams may be pushing each other to their first 20+ averages tomorrow.

At the same time, NMP PCH HayaBusa, with Blackjack coach David Grauwels, is running away from the AAA Class field with six sole highscores in six rounds. The second NSL Live TV video clip features the Top 10 teams with their first competition rounds on Friday morning. Round 7 is scheduled for Saturday morning. ACM Weembi and Chimera are in the middle of a similar British showdown as the Finnish teams, just on a higher scoring level, while 4-way Women team NFTO is on their way to leave the British Open Class teams behind once again...Round 1 on Friday morning
