Did You Know...

... that HF Flying Circus is the new Czech 4-way champion?

AAA Class awards at the Czech Nationals 2018
posted Aug 6th, 2018 - The scores of two of the teams on last week's AAA Class leaderboard came from the Czech Republic where a total of five teams attended the national championships this year.

Bad Boys were the defending national champions and did not even try to oppose HF Flying Circus this year. Bad Boys won the national 4-way title consecutively between 2013 and 2017 and were still quite far ahead (13.0 - 10.5) of the young Czech team at the national championships last year. HF Flying Circus had competed for the first time in the AAA Class at national championships in September 2017.

Both teams did not meet each other again at an outdoor competition after last year's nationals. However, HF Flying Circus attended the ESL Championship 2017 just a few weeks later and was up to a 12.9 average in Saarlouis. They were also showing that they were closing the gap at the regular Czech indoor meets of the World Tunnel League at the Hurricane Factory, beginning in November 2017.

Bad Boys still fended off the charging challengers in November 2017 and then again in February and March 2018. It was still only a matter of time when HF Flying Circus would finally take and maintain the top position. The challengers outscored Bad Boys for the first time in January 2018 and then again in April. Bad Boys fought back one more time, won the Czech Indoor Nationals 2017 and have not competed ever since.

Bad Boys' outdoor average at last year's national championship (13.0) would not have been enough to defend the title this year. HF Flying Circus won with a 13.3 average after nine rounds, and the sequence of Round 10 was the fastest one for the other AAA Class teams on last week's leaderboard. The average would probably have gone up slightly with the additional round.

High Five at the Czech Nationals 2018

HF Flying Circus had posted a higher AAA Class outdoor average (13.8) at the May meet with a faster draw.

However, they lifted the team's outdoor average ay last year's national championship by almost three average points (10.5 - 13.3) at last week's competition and had at least a very good chance to win if the Bad Boys had tried to defend their 4-way title.

In the team's second year after entering the AAA Class world HF Flying Circus has finally arrived at the national top level.

The whole Klapka family was competing once again, and father Jan could not offer Bad Boys opposition to his son Jakub's bid for the top spot with HF Flying Circus.

He competed with the MM Team instead and also helped out Ladies & Gentlemen after Round 3. Mother Jirina Klapkova was in direct competition with son Jakub and HF Flying Circus on the AAA Class leaderboard as a Sky member.

The other three Czech teams could not share their leaderboards with teams from Scandinavia. Finland had teams only on the AAA Class leaderboard, and Swedish teams competed only in AAA and AA.

Swedish AA Class winner: Cumulonimbus
Cumulonimbus won the AA Class gold medals in Sweden after a 2nd place in the A Class of 2016 behind Kwansta Synchro and then moving up into the AA Class last year. Kwansta Synchro won again in 2017, and both teams were back in the AA Class this year.

The all-female Cumulonimbus lineup turned the table last week and left their opponents of 2016 and 2017 behind by ten points. Ladies & Gentlemen won the Czech A Class competition with a new team record average above the 10-point benchmark.

Rookie Class team High Five added a whole point to the best meet average, as well, and they will represent the Czech delegation at the ESL Championship 2018, together with HF Flying Circus. The A Class dive pool is probably next for the team as soon as the indoor winter season begins.
