Did You Know...

... that the Coupe de France draw was not slow for the new AAA Class juniors?

Help with AAA Class draw: Mathieu Bernier in Lyon
posted Jan 26th, 2018 - French national coach Mathieu Bernier helped out and provided the draw for the AAA Class competition at the Coupe de France indoor competition in Lyon last weekend that the NSL News covered yesterday.

Monaco Indoor Skydive Team member Jeff Ronzevalle told the NSL News that it was a slow 10-round draw, and a closer look at the sequences explains why the Coupe de France scores were lower compared to results at other meets that Monaco and the Aerokart Ak'demie 3 team have recently attended.

Monaco's previous competition was the ISR Grand Prix 2017 where the same lineup had finished with a 22.3 average. Monaco scored the same total of 178 points in the eight rounds in Roosendaal that they collected in ten rounds in Lyon last weekend.

The competition draw at the Coupe de France competition included five of the six slot-switching blocks and 20 of all 22 blocks. National coach Mathieu Bernier also said that the technical video timing was different than the real 35-second working time, which cost the teams at least a point per round.

The draw and the timing trouble did not only have an impact on the AAA Class teams. The Aerokart Ak'demie 3 team also had a different situation to deal with on the AA Class leaderboard.

The NSL News story on 9 January 2018 had explained how Weembinamic 2017 organizer Julien Degen had manipulated the competition draw to accommodate all AAA and AA teams on the same leaderboard by eliminating the six slot-switching blocks and reducing the draw to 5-point sequences.

AA Class sequences are complete after four or five points. Four-point sequences could still have an additional random formation for the same sequence in a AAA Class draw and thus allow a higher score.

The Ak'demie 3 team had six of the ten sequences at the Coupe de France where an additional random formation could have been helpful to score higher. The AAA/AA Class draw at Weembinamic had included three sequences with one additional random formation.

Watch out for juniors: Espoir Weembi Maubeuge
Comparing the Monaco and Ak'demie 3 scores in Lyon with the same teams' results at their previous meets confirms Mathieu Bernier's and Jeff Ronzevalle's observations. The scores were lower due to the circumstances.

On the other hand, the same facts are lifting the performance of the Aerokart Ak'demie 2 team to an even higher level.

It was the first AAA Class competition for the 4-way Junior world champions, and they outscored the Monaco team and the French national B-Team. Even the complete lineup of Espoir Weembi Maubeuge might find some serious indoor opponents with the Ak'demie team in the near future.

All three teams will be back for more at the French Indoor Nationals 2018, where they will probably post their scores once again on the same leaderboard. Monaco will need the team's top performance level to keep up with the juniors, and Espoir Weembi Maubeuge will have to watch out for the juniors, as well...
