Did You Know...

... that the Golden Knights are only challenging themselves and their own record numbers?

Still on a different 8-way planet: Golden Knights
posted Sep 13th, 2016 - The 8-way teams share the Tuesday morning with the 4-way VFS teams in Formation Skydiving competition at the Mondial 2016, while the 4-way teams will get their turn in the afternoon.

There is no competition for the gold medals in 8-way. The Golden Knights are far ahead of France, and the only competition for the U.S. Army team is their own average and the highscores for each round.

It does not seem like there is a world record sequence in the 10-round competition draw. However, Round 1 did not seem to be an 8-way Super Sequence, and the Golden Knights still posted a 31-pointer. The standing world record for a single round is the 33-pointer that the same lineup posted at the World Air Games 2015. The highest 8-way average in history is the 23.7 that the Golden Knights finished with two times, first at the USPA Nationals 2014 and then again a year later at the same event.

Well prepared: Russia's Tanay 8-way team
There is a very serious battle for the silver medals though. Russia's Tanay lineup at Skydive Chicago is surprisingly on the heels of the French 8-way veterans. Russia won the silver medals over France after a jump-off round in Prostejov, however, it was a new French 8-way team with very little meet experience in 2014.

This time, Russia is dealing with eight former 8-way world champions, who were pushing the Golden Knights for the gold medals at the Mondial Dubai 2012. Tanay is well prepared this year after approx. 200 training jumps, and France will have to work hard for the silver medals.

There is also a tough battle between Airbus (Germany) and Microclim8 (Great Britain) that the Sun Path Products NSL News predicted on September 2nd. Both teams are tied in 5th place after Round 5.

Bronze medal battle with NFTO: Parachute Montreal Fuzion
The combined 4-way leaderboard offers once again an interesting situation before the 4-way competition resumes this afternoon. Just as in 8-way, there is no competition for NMP PCH HayaBusa. The only question is whether any other team will steal a highscore for a round or not.

The expected battle for the bronze medals is in full swing, and Arizona Airspeed in the silver medal position still has to watch out for the teams coming from behind. It's not only Black Cat, Qatar Tigers, France and maybe Evolution who are chasing the bronze medals.

Golden Knights and French Girls would also be a part of this battle for the Open Class medals if they competed in the same category. They are separated on their own leaderboard and have their own battle for gold medals in 4-way Women. It's the same leaderboard where NFTO (Great Britain) and Parachute Montreal Fuzion (Canada) battle for the bronze medals.
