Did You Know...

... that the Rookie Class teams won last weekend's 4-way competition?

Rookie Class winner Blue Steel
posted Jul 24th, 2015 - Last weekend's overall leaderboard has been completed just in time before new scores will be posted tomorrow. Teams from Texas and Northern Plains are challenging each other, and the new leaderboard will be updated on a regular basis.

The last leaderboard features a rare and greatly appreciated outcome. The Rookie Class competition turned out to be the most popular one, with 15 teams posting scores in three different countries. The addition of four Rookie Class teams from the Midwest Skydiving League eventually outnumbered the 13 AA and 13 A Class teams. Nine British Rookie Class teams and two in the Czech Republic made it a total of 15 teams in this category.

In fact, A Class and Rookie Class teams together (28) also outnumbered the combination of AAA and AA Class teams (19) last weekend. The grass roots level in 4-way Formation Skydiving competition is very much alive and keeps growing.

Some of the Rookie Class teams were also very competitive with two of the A Class sequences. Rounds 3 and 4 were identical in both categories, and the scores of the best Rookie Class teams were very close to the top scores in the A Class.

The scores from the Midwest Skydiving League were the last ones added to the overall leaderboard. Skydive Midwest hosted the meet, and Next finished with a new team record average on home turf.

Next and several other MWSL teams only got free SDC Rhythm XP coaching at the season opener in May, due to bad weather. The Skydive Midwest team then launched the 2015 competition season with an 11.5 average in June and followed up with 11.8 last weekend.

Skydive Midwest Next in action
The 11.8 average indicates that SDMW Next could be in medal contention at this year's USPA Nationals in Eloy. Carolina Dynamic won the USPA bronze medals last year with a 10.8 average, Centerpoint was in 2nd place with 11.1 at Skydive Chicago.

Even the gold medals could be in reach for Next. Spaceland SPX5 won USPA's Intermediate Class, which is identical with the AA Class, with a 12.4 average last year.

Team Singularity (NCSL - 11.5) and Synergy (NWSL - 11.1) were also in the 2014 top mix but were not eligible for USPA medals. Skydive Midwest Next's 11.8 average is on medal level, and only one AA Class team in the USA has posted a higher average this year so far: Ragnarok at the CASL June meet...
