Did You Know...

... that the AA Class competition had the tightest field at the German Nationals?

AA Class awards
posted Sep 4th, 2015 - The grande finale in the 4-way AAA Class competition of the German Nationals 2015 was a drama that the Sun Path Products NSL News will cover later on.

However, the battle for the silver medals between FSC Remscheid and AtomiX YUU-Skydive was still not even the most exciting part of the 4-way event. The eight teams in the AA Class created a very unusual and extraordinary leaderboard. All AA Class teams were very competitive and close to each other, so close that only one of the eight teams finished without a highscore for a round. Round 8 was the highlight of this special field of teams, when there was only one single point between first and last place.

The battle for the medal positions was even more special, as the Top 3 teams were still tied in 1st place after Round 7. The ranking order changed in different ways in Rounds 8 and 9, and the same three teams were still separated by only one single point. Eventually, they untangled in the last moment and did not have to add a jump-off round for the medals.

The same three teams knew each other from last year's national championships, which was cut short to only four rounds because of bad weather.

The hosting skydiving center had several home teams compete at the Fallschirmsportzentrum Saar. It was the home turf of Paratec-Saar, Germany's former national 4-way team. Team member Markus Bastuck runs the drop zone operation together with his father Helmut Bastuck, and former team mate Dieter Schwarz is also working and coaching in Saarlouis.

Helmut Bastuck has been running the manifest every year at the Dubai International Parachuting Championships (DIPC). He said that he trains for the big event with the daily operation at his home DZ. This year, he will take care of the World Air Games in Dubai at the end of the year.
