Did you know that the Fun Flag was flying higher than ever in Dubai? posted: Jan 17th, 2010 There is one more topic of the Dubai Championship that needs to be covered before the NSL News will turn to other events with other stories.
The NSL News audience and visitors at the World Cup 2009 competition in Prostejov, Czech Republic, probably still remember the wild battles for the Fun Flag. It was one of the most exciting and thrilling events in the history of the flag. The flag even made a freefall and a parachute flight in Prostejov.
The British and French delegations were mostly involved in the Fun Flag battle of September 2009. However, neither of them eventually took the Fun Flag... (more)
Did you know that teams from Morocco have never competed at a World Meet or a World Cup? posted: Jan 16th, 2010 The 4-way competition in the female category at the Dubai Championship came to an end that did not offer any surprises or new information.
The French World Cup winner of 2009, Aerokart Deep Blue Maubeuge, walked away with the 1st place and $20,000. The 17.8 average is not a very impressive meet average after the eight rounds. However, the NSL News story on 11 January 2010 already provided some information of the Deep Blue performance in Dubai that explains some of the reasons for the lower scores.
As in Dubai, Deep Blue did not have much competition at the World Cup 2010, as well, where the... (more)
Did you know that Airspeed made it a 21-victory streak on a $20,000 trip? posted: Jan 15th, 2010 It's a wrap in Dubai. Arizona Airspeed posted the 4th sole highscore for a round. The 4-way world champions gave away only one of the eight rounds and tied the highest score in three other rounds. That's more than enough to win a meet, once again.
Hayabusa Defence lost two points in the last round, Airspeed one, due to point deductions in the judging room. France Aerodyne Cypres Maubeuge ended up safely in 3rd place. Canada Evolution had to accept that the French national team with alternate Marin Ferre was still stronger once the team's coach and 4-way world champion of 2003 had warmed up well... (more)
Did you know that Perris Fury's Chris Farina commented the Dubai action? posted: Jan 15th, 2010 Round 8 is over in Dubai, and the winner is Arizona Airspeed - at least according to the latest results of the NSL Poll. The real scores have not been posted yet.
Not much has changed ever since the poll options were reduced to Arizona Airspeed and Hayabusa Defence. In fact, the final vote (55% - 45%) somehow reflects the scores and rankings throughout the meet. Airspeed is a little bit further ahead in the poll than the real scores actually show. However, 45% for Hayabusa is also evidence that many observers expect the Belgian team to win a meet at any time now.
By the way: Airspeed's video... (more)
Did you know that the Airspeed lead is up to four points after Round 7? posted: Jan 14th, 2010 The scores for Round 7 confirmed Craig Girard's new theory: "I guess not telling you guys the scores is the secret. We actually got the raw score on that jump for the first time this meet! To be honest, we feel like we might have got away with one for a change. There was a build of Block 1 about half way through the jump that was shaky... I think it was complete, but the fact is that it doesn't look good, so I figured they would bust it."
They did not and accepted Airspeed's 24 points within working time as the official score. The Airspeed lead over Hayabusa is now the biggest one of the Dubai... (more)
Did you know that there are no scoresheets available in Dubai? posted: Jan 14th, 2010 Round 7 has already been completed, and Airspeed's video can already be reviewed on the team's Facebook page. The scores have not been posted yet, and Craig Girard does not feel like commenting much any longer after being surprised by the results on the scoreboard already a few times before.
However, he also uploaded the video of Round 6 where Airspeed, Hayabusa and France all shared the highscore of 26 points for the round.
The results of the judging procedure and any details of the penalty situations are completely subject to speculation, he also reported. There is no eletronic judging... (more)
