Did You Know...

... that Airspeed's Odyssey 2007 is now available on DVD?

Awards at the USPA Nationals
posted Feb 8th, 2008 - Some of the regular Skyleague.com visitors have already detected a new item in the NSL Shop and ordered a new DVD that has been added to the inventory. Airspeed's Odyssey through the 2007 season, at least in parts, has now been documented on the new DVD, which has just become available.

The NSL News has covered most of the events that Airspeed Odyssey attended last year, and many meet videos were uploaded and could be viewed on NSL-TV. However, a video on the internet is surely not the same as a DVD of the best 4-way jumps of the 2007 season, and the DVD offers much more than only competition jumps.

It was about time for a new up-to-date 4-way video. The Best of Perris Fury 2006 offered the last 4-way update with footage of the 2006 season. Airspeed's last DVD, the "Arizona Airspeed Mind Maps" was made by mastermind Craig Buxton and has still not been matched in quality yet.

However, that was four years ago, and Airspeed Odyssey's Andy Delk finally went to work and put together the highlights of an incredible 2007 season for his team. The Odyssey footage does not only offer the current top level of 4-way techniques. It is also a documentation of a history-making skydiving season for the USPA Champion 2007.

Two of the six 10-round competitions that Airspeed Odyssey attended in 2007 can be viewed on the new DVD, the Malevsky Cup 2007 and the USPA Nationals 2007. The Malevsky Cup 2007 (Archives > 2007 > Schedule > Results) was the event where Odyssey broke all previous 4-way meet records with a 26.0 average.

The USPA Nationals 2007 was the team's crucial stepping stone on the way to gold medals at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2008 in France. Odyssey won the last competition of the year with a 25.3 average, nine points ahead of Team Fastrax.

10 rounds of the USPA Nationals 2007
The lowest scores of these 20 competition jumps were three 21-pointers, two in Russia (Round 3 for 5-10-21 and Round 7 for 2-22-7) and one in Ottawa (Round 9 for 7-22-15). The highest score on the DVD is the 41-pointer in Round 2 at the Malevsky Cup (E-Q-D-J-K).

The last time that Airspeed Odyssey posted a score for a single round below 20 points in a competition was in Round 9 at the FSL Shamrock Showdown 2007 (6-11-20). All scores ever since to date, which is for the next 41 jumps including the World Challenge 2007, were 20 points and higher.

Technical part of the DVD
The Airspeed Odyssey show on the new DVD begins with the ten rounds at the USPA Nationals 2007. It is a motivating and inspiring start for the viewer. The competition jumps show the Blocks and Random Formations of the dive pool as they are applied in the real world.

The next chapter brings the coaching tool to the user. The best Odyssey exits and techniques for each Random Formation and Block follow, first in full speed and then in slow-motion. The presentation on the DVD is not different compared to other previous versions. However, it is the latest and the best at the moment.

The second set of ten competition jumps then shows how Eliana Rodriguez, Craig Girard, Andy Delk and Mark Kirkby applied their best techniques to get to the 26.0 average at the Malevsky Cup 2007.

The last chapter introduces each team member personally. The four Odyssey champions each explain how they define their own success and what is important for them in 4-way Formation Skydiving competition.

The DVD has a top menu and several sub menus, which makes it easy to navigate. It is the colorful documentation of a historic season in Formation Skydiving competition - a "must-have" for each 4-way fan. Click here to watch a clip without audio.
