posted Apr 5th, 2005 - After being weathered out for the original date for the first meet of the year of the Colorado Skydiving League, we were blessed with some of the best weather of the year for the rescheduled meet. The turn out was great with one Rookie team, four Scrambles teams and one late entry team for Scrambles that could not finish before the beer drinking and pizza eating began. The King Air flew 26 loads, and the Mile Hi Skydiving Center did a great job of making sure everyone got all 3 rounds in.

Rookie Class

The King Air can be difficult to exit, and Caged Animals found their own challenges with the exits. I was videoing one of their training jumps and Daena gave no less than three complete exit counts before the team left the plane. The camera man left on the first count. The skydivers watching from inside the plane thought Daena looked like a caged animal, hence the team name.

The team’s goal was to average one point per round for their meet, and they met that goal, making them the number one Rookie Class team in the nation - this weekend.

Scrambles

The Colorado Skydiving League is the only league in the nation that includes a Scrambles event. My goal with Scrambles is to get low experience jumpers to taste 4-way and perhaps develop some Rookie Class teams. Although our turnout for Scrambles was great, we only had one low experienced jumper. Tiger took advantage of the opportunity to skydive with some of the strongest 4-way competitors in Colorado. Samer Haija, Dave Boes, and Kevin Chapman did an excellent job of tutoring Tiger through her first real 4-way skydives. Congratulations to Tiger for recognizing the opportunity and learning from it!

The other teams were all very experienced skydivers, leading to some of the best Scrambles scores in Colorado’s history! Thanks to all of you who showed up to pass on your knowledge to others. Let’s hope the others show up next time.

Next Meet

Stay tuned for information on the next meet on May 7 and 8. Rookie Class and Scrambles will compete on May 7, and AA class on May 8. Location is to be determined. Your input is welcomed as to the location.
