Did You Know...

... that Claire "Sparky" Scott has joined Bodyflight Storm?

Claire "Sparky" Scott
posted Jan 4th, 2007 - The NSL News continues with updates from Great Britain. Tuesday's story included an article in The Times on-line edition, which provided new information of the British 4-way world champion team in the female category, Airkix. The NSL News story mentioned a change in the Airkix line-up.

New updates were now provided directly from the team and also from former team member Claire "Sparky" Scott. The NSL News will begin with her new situation and the team that she has become a member of, Bodyflight Storm. The next update will introduce the new member of Airkix.

Claire Scott accepts the gold medals with VMax at the Mondial 2003
Claire "Sparky" Scott informed the NSL News that the circumstances after the World Meet 2006 in Germany made it difficult to continue with the Airkix line-up of the last two years, even though all team members would have liked to. In fact, Claire Scott said that she was ready for more:

"I would have loved for us to have continued. I was wanting us to commit to another strong 2-year plan with the aim of pushing the average as far as we could whether it be in the Women's category or the Open." She still has enough motivation and energy to move on and up after winning four sets of gold medals in the female category: World Cup 1999 and 2002 (VMax), World Meet 2003 (VMax) and 2006 (Airkix).

However, the whole team was not able to make new plans and commitments at the same time last year. Whilst there were no plans on the table for Airkix, Claire Scott was offered the opportunity to join Bodyflight Storm. The team's all-female line-up attended two meets of the British Grand Prix series (11.2 - 12.8) and then won the AA Class competition at the British Nationals 2006 with a 13.3 average.

Bodyflight Storm presented a very tempting 2-year plan to Claire Scott, which exceeded anything that she had done before. She could not resist and committed to the new team. Bodyflight Storm is a less experienced team compared to Airkix. However, Claire Scott trained with her new team in the wind tunnel and realized that there is great potential.

Claire Scott and Kate Stephens in 1999
Bodyflight Storm's 2006 line-up consisted of Hannah Betts (Center Inside), Sarah Smith (Point), Caroline Guest (Center Outside), and Amanda Karlsson (Tail) in 2006. The line-up changed just prior to the British Nationals 2006 when Amanda Karlsson had to step back due to work commitments. Kate Stephens, Claire Scott's former VMax teammate in 1999, filled the slot at the last minute very successfully.

Caroline Guest discontinued with Bodyflight Storm after the last competition in 2006 and opened the door for Claire Scott to join the team in her usual slot.

Dan BC observes Airkix jump preparations at the World Meet 2006 in Germany
Bodyflight Storm's new Center Outside admitted that she was sad not to continue with Airkix: "We were a fantastic team, not only to jump with, but we all got on so well."

On the other hand, she is excited about the upcoming two years: "I am really looking forward to the new challenges that lie ahead with Storm. Plus, I can't wait to work with Dan BC again. He did a fantastic job with Airkix during the last two years."

Bodyflight Storm knocked at Dan BC's door a little bit earlier than Airkix. Claire Scott's new team presented to him another 2-year project, which gives the veteran coach another opportunity to utilise his training plan that has worked so well in the past. Bodyflight Storm will begin with the training in Perris in February, and Claire Scott can't wait for the start.

The new Airkix situation will be the next topic from Great Britain for the NSL News.
