Did You Know...

... that DC3 won the VPC Championship 2006?

Virginia Parachute Council
posted Oct 18th, 2006 - Two more events wrapped up the regular 2006 season, one competition in Brazil, the other one in Virginia. The remaining two events on the NSL Calendar of Events are the USPA Nationals 2006 and the NSL Championship 2006. The event in Eloy will be brought to the audience under NSL News Special Events coverage, while the NSL Championship is a part of SkyQuest 2006.

The Virginia Parachute Council held its final competition of the 2006 season at Skydive Orange, Inc on Oct 8th. It was a weather shortened meet of only four rounds, but it was the biggest turnout of the year. Four teams participated in the AA Class competition, with two teams competing neck to neck for the first place.

VPC Champion 2006: DC3
DC3 from Skydive the Point won this meet by two points and the VPC Championship of the 2006 season. DC3, with Christine Bruchac, Chris Halsan, Christi Meyer and Dave Owens in the line-up, just edged out Jean Shorts & Smocks from Skydive Orange.

Both teams were tied after the first round, and DC3 won rounds two and three for a 3-point lead. Jean Shorts & Smocks came back in round four and reduced the distance to two points. The weather did not allow the completion of six rounds, and DC3 ended up on top of the AA Class leaderboard.

SkyQuest 2006
Team Suffolk the Point took the 3rd place, and first-year team Generators completed the field at Skydive Orange. Although bad weather delayed the start of the meet until 2:00 pm, the teams were in high spirits all day waiting for the first load.

The new league director, Chris Halsan, re-activated the operation of the Virginia Parachute Council with new energy and motivation at the beginning of the 2006 season. Six teams competed in this year's events, and three drop zones in Virginia hosted one meet each.

Chris Halsan has an optimistic outlook into the near future: "Next year looks to be even more successful, involving more teams and an additional drop zone."

He also reported that a VPC team will represent the oldest competition league in the country at the NSL Championship 2006 in November in DeLand: "For the first time the VPC champion will travel to Florida to compete in the NSL Championship in November. We are really looking forward to competing at this event."
