NSL News Coverage of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024

Did You Know...

... that last weekend's results of the NSL SkyVenture Competition are now posted?

SkyVenture Orlando
posted Jun 24th, 2004 - The scoring table of the NSL SkyVenture Competition for the June 19 weekend is a record breaking monster. Scores of 71 teams had to be registered and calculated. Fortunately, and thanks to webmaster Craig Buxton, the new NSL website database includes a math feature that processes the scores, applies the handicap formula and creates the scoring overview automatically.
Perris SkyVenture
18 of the 71 teams competed in Europe at the Dutch Handicap Cup competition for the Tomscat Trophy. 53 NSL teams competed across the USA. 26 teams had signed up for the AAA Class competition, nine of these teams in the Netherlands. 20 NSL teams competed in the AA Class, and another 20 teams in the A Class, includingh nine Dutch teams. Five Rookie Class teams completed the field of 71 teams.
Perris School Boyz 2003 line-up
It was an unfortunate NSL SkyVenture Competition weekend for teams that had already posted any scores at meets earlier this year. Usually the teams competing at the earlier meets of the season have the advantage since they most likely improve their scores meet by meet. It is more difficult for new teams to improve the meet average at any competition, due to the fact that they receive their handicaps after round three of their first competition. Most of the times, the average of the whole competition is not much different compared to the first three rounds. This was different last weekend. There were many new teams making their first appearance of the 2004 season. At the same time, the first three rounds of the competition had slow sequences, while rounds four through six were the fast and fun ones with round four as the meet's burner. To make it worse, the Texas Skydiving League completed only four rounds, which means that the handicapped scores for the AAA, AA and Rookie Class were calculated after these four rounds. The TSL did not have teams competing in the A Class, which received their NSL SkyVenture Competition scores after six rounds.
AAA Class winner after handicap, Dutch team R-Fource
Last weekend's special circumstances with the competition draw had the biggest impact on the AAA Class competition. The difference between the average after the first three rounds and the scores of round four was dramatic. The teams with previous meet averages did not have a chance, even if they improved their season average significantly. Elsinore GT, for example, lifted the team's six-round average from 12.2 at the first meet to 14.3 at last weekend's competition. However, EGT had no chance to keep up with the Perris School Boyz at their first meet this year. The School Boyz had a 13.7 average in the records after three rounds, then scored 22 points in round four, and the NSL SkyVenture Competition was over.
Elsinore GT
EGT still came very close to the top of the NSL SkyVenture Competition leaderboard. It would have been even closer without the penalties in rounds three and six. Bad luck, fact is that there must be rules, and all the teams competing for the first time this year were in the same situation. It was still a good race for the SkyVenture certificates. The Dutch team R-Fource ended up on the very top after handicap and wins 30 minutes of SkyVenture tunnel time. The Perris School Boyz receive the additional 30 minutes for the NSL part of the SkyVenture Competition. The AA Class competition was hardly hit at all, despite the same circumstances. The shorter sequences cushioned the impact of the competition draw. The new teams did not have the same advantage as in the AAA Class. The Texas Skydiving League team 4 of a Kind was rewarded as usual for the most improved performance. 4 of a Kind came from a 3.8 meet average at the TSL season opener and posted a 6.5 meet average last weekend. Congratulations, and a 30-minute SkyVenture certificate will be sent to Texas. Kaizen of the Great Lakes Skydiving League was the winner of the AA Class before handicap with a 10.8 meet average.
Tomscat Trophy of the Dutch Handicap Cup
The competition in the A Class of the NSL SkyVenture Competition was decided after six rounds. Four teams of the Dutch Handicap Cup in Europe ended up on top of the leaderboard before and after handicap. Turbulence had already competed at the first DHC meet this year and improved the team's scores from a 4.4 average to the 8.8 average last weekend. 30 minutes of free SkyVenture tunnel time go to Europe. Evolution FST of the Southwest Skydiving League was the best NSL team before and after handicap and will receive a 30-minute SkyVenture certificate, as well.

Five Rookie Class teams competed at three different locations in the USA. It is the second consecutive weekend that the Rookie Class enjoyed good competition. Three of the teams, Funnel U (0.8 - 4.0), Sirens (1.5 - 4.0), Nite Hooker and the Pimps (1.8 - 3.0), attended their second meet of the 2004 season. Each of these teams improved its scoring level significantly. Funnel U of the Texas Skydiving League ended up on top of the inofficial Rookie Class leaderboard after handicap and will receive ten minutes of free SkyVenture tunnel time. The rules of the Rookie Class competition are still different from league to league and do not allow official participation of this class in the NSL SkyVenture Competition. However, NSL and SkyVenture honor this class with additional certificates. The NSL will make efforts to synchronize the Rookie Class next year.
