NSL News Coverage of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024

Did You Know...

... that Florida teams trained at iFLY Orlando for the NSL Championship 2011?

Ari Perelman with Bob Byrne
posted Nov 9th, 2011 - The Florida Skydiving League and iFLY Orlando held the next FSL Tunnel Kicker last night at the longest standing windtunnel in Orlando. This time, the camp had a different purpose after the previous events dedicated the 90 minutes of flying time to skydivers in Florida who would like to test and join the Formation Skydiving 4way community.

The Florida Skydiving League offered the complimentary windtunnel training time to the teams that will compete for the FSL at the upcoming NSL Championship at SkyQuest 2011 in DeLand. Several of the team members have grown out of the FSL/iFLY project that was launched this year to support the promotional FSL 4way recruiting campaign.

Coaches Ari Perelman, who recently competed with Thrown Down (6th - 19.0) at the USPA Nationals 2011, Robert Chromy and Rodney Cruce helped the teams with the final preparations for the competition where they have to defend the FL home turf.

Robert Chromy with Rhythm at iFLY Orlando in 2007
Coach Robert Chromy was actually the first team coach for JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz when they formed their first Rhythm lineup in 2007. Four years later, SDC Rhythm XP of 2011 has now impressed the 4way world with a stellar performance at the USPA Nationals 2011. Robert Chromy explained in the video of the iFLY camp last night how he followed Rhythm's performance with a lot of passion, as many others did.

He is currently once again a player coach, this time for Teiwaz South. His lineup includes more new 4way talent that may get to the very top one day. Team member Trevor Cedar, in the Tail slot, has already dedicated his life to a full time skydiving operation and recently moved from Miami to DeLand.

Teiwaz South was missing Jan McGuire at the iFLY tunnel camp. Gilles Dutrisac was filling the slot. He recently won the USPA silver medals in the Advanced Class with Start 4 and will also compete for Teiwaz South at the NSL Championship where Pam Manos will not be available.

Ari Perelman, Rodney Cruce, Bob Byrne and Kurt Gaebel also used some of the flying time to get another Teiwaz lineup ready for the upcoming meet. Teiwaz has to win back the AAA Class trophy, the NSL Shugar Cup, which was sponsored by Dr. Joel Shugar and taken by DeLand Shmeland in 2010.

Two other lineups with iFLY Tunnel Kicker participants of 2011, mostly from Skydive City, were under the supervision of Ari Perelman and Rodney Cruce to get ready to compete in the Rookie and A Class competition of the NSL Championship at SkyQuest 2011. Some of the participants even added another hour to the 90 minutes of flying time and continued with more individual tunnel training and coach Rodney Cruce.

The NSL News also met two visitors from France at iFLY Orlando. They were members of the French B-Teams (Adrien De Saignes, Julien Delpuech, Matthieu Despres, Antoine Leleu) that finished tied in 12th team with a 14.6 average at the World Cup 2011 in Germany. They are on vacation in Florida and practiced their freeflying skills at iFLY Orlando.
