Did You Know...

... that Evolution tries to win both 4-way events in Canada?

Evolution at the World Meet 2010 in Menzelinsk
posted Jul 7th, 2011 - The team name "Evolution" did not appear on the leaderboard of this year's Midway Battle, at least not on the 4-way Formation Skydiving leaderboard for teams who fly horizontally.

The Canadian national 4-way team with the complete LeMay family (father Michel and his three sons Benoit, Vincent, Martin) had attended the Midway Battle last year and then competed at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010. The NSL News covered the unique team many times on its road to the World Meet in Menzelinsk, Russia.

It has been quiet around the team ever since, as the LeMay family is very busy running the skydiving and wind tunnel operation in and near Montreal. However, the family team also did not really know where to go and what to do from then on. The three sons are passionate freeflyers, as well, and father Michel was planning to step back after the World Meet 2010.

Plan was to find a new young and talented team member who would take Michel LeMay's slot in 4-way and also join Benoit, Vincent and Martin in their pursuit of 4-way Vertical Formation Skydiving goals.

The VFS 4-way plans materialized at least at this year's Midway Battle where Evolution's new lineup was actually competing, as the VFS leaderboard shows. Martin LeMay also provided footage of the team's competition at Skydive Chicago in June.

The new Evolution VFS lineup actually needed two new members since videographer Daniel Paquette was not planning to film Vertical Formation Skydiving, just as much as Michel LeMay could not join his sons' VFS efforts. However, the complete family will still compete at the Canadian Nationals 2011. The three sons want to win both 4-way events, and Michel LeMay will take his slot for the traditional 4-way competition, while the new lineup competes in VRW.

Evolution VFS 4-way lineup
Winning the Canadian Nationals 2011 in both events is not going to be a walk in the park. There is no doubt that Evolution will win the traditional 4-way competition. However, it will be much more challenging in VFS 4-way. The wind tunnel instructors in Montreal have their own lineup, and they focus only on VFS 4-way.

Vincent LeMay told the NSL News that the VFS training was going well and that the team is giving the new event a lot of attention. Finding a new member for the traditional FS 4-way team has been more difficult. The young 3-way started training with a young and athletic local skydiver who unfortunately did not continue. This brought Michel LeMay back into his old slot for now. The new VFS team member, Philippe Thibodeau, is filming the team in the traditional 4-way event.

Benoit, Vincent and Martin LeMay continue to look for a new team member for both events. Vincent LeMay said that it is difficult to define exactly what the three brothers want: "There are so many things I want to do in a limited amount of time!" However, he and his brothers are looking forward to find a motivated skydiver who wishes to win FS competitions as much as they do.
