NSL News Coverage of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024

Did You Know...

... that Fenix completed their 3rd meet before the CISM Championships on home turf?

CTR Optimum with Mark Kirkby
posted Jul 4th, 2011 - The Brazilian team Fenix, a military lineup in the female 4-way category, attended its third meet of the 2011 season last weekend. Two of the meets took place at Skydive Arizona, including the Valentine's Meet 2011, where the NSL News met the team at the competition site during the live coverage.

The lineup was different when Fenix came back to Eloy in June and attended the second meet of the Arizona Skydiving League 2011. Lailla Surcin was new in the Tail slot. Now she completed her second meet with Fenix in the same slot, as the Brazilian team had the same lineup as in June last weekend.

Meet organizer and coach André Ferraz, who had just recently completed his own CTR Optimum training camp with Arizona Airspeed's Mark Kirkby, reported that Fenix also had a new videographer. Clarissa Grechi was filming the team last weekend.

Fenix at the Valentine's Meet 2011
Fenix posted a new team highscore for a single round with the 13-pointer (9-7) in the meet opener, which took the early lead that Fenix never gave up. It was not a walk in the park for the team though. In fact, two other Brazilian AA Class teams made it a great battle, and each of the three teams posted at least one highscore for a round.

Anima in 3rd place benefitted from the other two contenders' struggle with the extremely slow and technically challenging sequence of Round 3 (13-20) and won the round clearly with a 7-pointer. Pe de Pano eventually ended up only two points behind Fenix after six rounds.

Fenix has continued to train and compete in the AA Class dive pool as the team prepares for the military CISM World Championships, which has a limited dive pool and is hosted by Brazil this year. The event will take place in Rio and is scheduled for July 16 - 24. It's the same event where NMP-PCH Hayabusa will defend the team's gold medals of the past years. Once again, there will not be much time for the Belgian team to get ready for the World Cup 2011 shortly after coming back from Brazil. The Brazilian teams are not registered for the event in Germany.
