Did You Know...

... that France plans to pursue the complete double gold in 2012?

8-way competitor Clement Martin St. Leon, 8-way and 4-way competitor Emmanuel "Manu" Sarrazin,8-way coach Erwan Pouliquen
posted Nov 12th, 2010 - The NSL News mentioned yesterday that the new French national coach, Jeremie Rollett, has finalized the lineups for the next 2-year cycle until the World Championship of Formation Skydiving in 2012.

The story on 21 October 2010 introduced the lineup for the 4-way Open Class. The selection of the new 8-way lineup and the French female 4-way team took a little bit longer.

The story on 15 October 2010 took a closer look at the French 8-way "Trio of Success", Erwan Pouliquen, Emmanuel "Manu" Sarrazin and Clement Martin St. Leon, who together have been guiding the French 8-way teams to three consecutive gold medals in 2006, 2008 and 2010.

French 8-way lineup of 2006
Jeremie Rollett's recent update for the NSL News confirmed that the same 3-way will take on an even bigger goal for 2012. France will pursue the double gold challenge again, this time with the complete 4-way lineup training and competing in 8-way, as well.

Mathieu Bernier was the first and only competitor in the history of the sport who accomplished this goal at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010 when he won gold medals in 4-way and in 8-way. Now he tries again, this time together with his brother Guillaume, Julien Degen and new 4-way member Manu Sarrazin.

Erwan Pouliquen and Clement Martin St. Leon will again support the challenging project. However, Erwan Pouliquen will only focus on his coaching job this time, while Clement Martin St. Leon tries to win his 4th consecutive gold medal in 8-way.

French 8-way lineup of 2008
The 4-way lineup is a very strong foundation for the 8-way team. All four members have won 8-way gold medals together in 2006 and 2008. Julien Degen, Guillaume and Mathieu Bernier added 4-way gold medals this year, Mathieu Bernier also his third 8-way gold medal.

Coach Erwan Pouliquen will not have too much work with the other four members, as well. Clement Martin St. Leon has the latest new members Julien Olek and Thomas Perrin by his side in 8-way who just won their first gold medals in Menzelinsk.

Bruno Perin completes the 8-way lineup, and he will not slow down the 4-way experts either. He was a member of the French 8-way lineup that won the gold medals in 2006 and 2008, and he was still the alternate for the 2010 lineup. Videographer Stephane Mistrot Dit Pachet also knows what he is doing, as he was filming the 2008 lineup.

The video shows the French 8-way lineup of 2008 in action, with two of the jumps at the World Meet in Maubeuge and all ten rounds at the USPA Nationals.

Six 8-way members of the world champion lineups in 2006 and 2008 (Julien Degen, Guillaume and Mathieu Bernier, Bruno Perin, Clement Martin St. Leon, Manu Sarrazin) now combine with Julien Olek and Thomas Perrin who won their own gold medals this year.

The French 8-way lineup of 2006 and 2008 may have been the strongest one in the French 8-way history. The same six members of the new lineup, with Erwan Pouliquen and Jeremie Rollett, won the gold medals in 2008 and then traveled to Eloy for the USPA Nationals 2008 and a rematch with the US 8-way teams. France was chasing the 8-way world records in Eloy, still held by the Golden Knights since 1997, and missed it closely after a 10-round 22.2 average performance. Julien Olek and Thomas Perrin will be eager to try the same with the 6-way of 2006 and 2008.
