Did You Know...

... that the 3rd Paraclete XP Indoor Skydiving Championships are scheduled for February 2011?

Golden Knights visit the tunnel construction during the Paraclete XP Money Meet 2007
posted Nov 5th, 2010 - Paraclete XP, the 16-foot wind tunnel in Raeford, North Carolina, began a series of events actually with an outdoor meet. The Paraclete XP Money Meet was held the first time in July 2007 only as an outdoor competition.

A year later, Tim D'Annunzio was ready to run the first big indoor competition. He combined Paraclete XP Money Meet and Indoor Skydiving Championships in June 2008 for a very intense weekend package. It was an international world class field that completed ten indoor and ten outdoor rounds in Raeford.

The NSL News reported live from the competition site a few months before Arizona Airspeed would win the World Meet 2008 in France. NSL-TV has uploaded a video that shows the jumpoff round, which was necessary when the Golden Knights and Perris Fury were tied in 2nd place after ten rounds.

Paraclete indoor and outdoor action in 2008
The same two teams had butted heads throughout the ten rounds of the outdoor competition, as well (227 - 226), and the US Army's Gold lineup won by a single point.

The outcome of the indoor jumpoff went the other way, and Fury won the 11th round by two points (26 - 24). The video also shows Arizona Airspeed doing the same jumpoff sequence from two different perspectives, the judging camera and the eye level.

Airspeed did not have to make this round since the upcoming 4-way world champions of 2008 were two points ahead in 1st place after ten rounds. Airspeed just continued with the same team rotation and finished the jumpoff sequence with a 29-pointer. The same video finished with some fun flying after the work...

Indoor and outdoor winner in 2008: Arizona Airspeed
There is a good reason for the review of this event, and more stories will follow. Paraclete XP eventually decided to focus mainly on the tunnel business and followed up a year later with the 2nd Indoor Skydiving Championships, once again held in June.

Paraclete XP then decided to change the date of the event and did not schedule the 3rd Indoor Skydiving Championships for this year. Instead the next big Paraclete XP tunnel meet will take place on 5 - 6 February 2011.

The event pages are showing what the participating teams can expect at the beginning of next year in Raeford. A jackpot of over $20,000 will be shared between three different events.

"Performance within inches of where you sit" - Kirk Verner
The biggest chunk of the money ($14,000) will go to the winners of the 4-way events. Paraclete XP4 member Kirk Verner said that he has commitments from some of the best VFS 4-way teams (Standard, Arsenal, 4Speed, Bad Lieutenants). He expects to have some of the best FS 4-way teams in the world at this event, as well.

The remainder of the cash prices will go to the winners in two other categories, VFS 2-way, 1-way Best Trick and 2-way Best Routine. The NSL News will report live from the competition site in February, and the NSL-TV coverage will surely include videos of those new events. Kirk Verner is excited about the show of flying tricks:

"I am really interested in watching the Best Trick category, it should be a great spectator sport. Speaking of which, this is what I like the most of tunnel comps, the ability to be virtually in the action. Fantastic to see athletes perform within inches of where you sit." The NSL News will follow up with more information.
