Did You Know...

... that Team Bodyflight and Satori continue their UK battle this weekend?

Defending UK champion: Satori
posted Aug 12th, 2010 - The competition at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010 is over. However, several teams have only a short break before they compete again at national championships.

This weekend has two of those events on the agenda, and they include a very interesting situation.

The 4-way teams at the World Meet were separated into the Open and the Female category. Most of the nations don't copy the two different IPC competition classes at their national championships.

All 4-way teams are ranked and the scores are posted on the same leaderboard, including the national 4-way teams that competed in Menzelinsk.

The United Kingdom and Norway are holding their national championships this weekend, and both countries had teams competing in both 4-way categories. They will now battle for their national titles on the same leaderboard. UK correspondent Jo Hawley provided a preview of the UK Nationals 2010.

UK Nationals 2010

By Jo Hawley

Over in the United Kingdom we are all anxiously biting nails and doing some last minute visualisation ahead of the national championships this weekend. The event at Hibaldstow starts on Friday evening with the draw, jumping will be from Saturday to Monday and could even carry over to the following weekend if the weather doesn’t play ball.

Everyone is waiting with baited breath to see how Satori and Team Bodyflight are looking following the World Meet.

The teams were pretty much neck and neck throughout the competition, with Satori scoring just one more point than Bodyflight over nine rounds. It’s too close to call for the UK Nationals. Could Satori’s crown be taken from them by last year’s silver medal winners?

In the rest of the AAA Class field, Sonicnutz has been posting impressive scores in training and are hoping for another podium finish.

Having changed their Center Inside to Simon Cathrine (formerly of Fusion), they’ve had a tough year of marrying different styles of skydiving, but the hard work was really beginning to pay off in the second half of the season.

Fresh from a gold medal at the recent UKSL meet, they’ll be hopeful of another podium finish after taking the bronze medal last year.

Team Voodoo (the South African national team with a bit of Steve Hamilton magic) will be posting scores to give them some competition, but aren’t eligible for the medals as an international team.

Sonicnutz’s former Center Inside Jason Kierman is now in Escondido who along with Kaizen, Phobia and Vision are amongst the teams who’ll yet again be doing their best to chase Sonicnutz’s scores.

Vision will be jumping with Pete Allum in the Center Outside slot and hasn’t yet shown their stuff on the UK scene, so the teams are interested to see what they can do.

Kaizen and Phobia have struggled with both lineup changes and injuries this year. New team TLD will be hoping to post a good average following solid performances at UKSL meets throughout the year.

Rookie Class top contender: Raykipo
In the AA Class, Unagi is the team to beat having taken all the gold medals available so far for the second year running. Last year’s A Class champions will be hotly pursued by Slot Machines, Sirius and Old Skool in a category where you can guarantee that the banter will be as quick as the skydiving.

In the A Class, 2009 Rookie Class champions Full Stop are tipped to make an appearance, but will they be able to challenge Gr4vity who have dominated this year’s UKSL season?

Raykipo and High Altitude Heroes will continue their tense battle for supremacy in the Rookie Class. Who will finally come out on top, and will any surprise rookie teams come out of the woodwork to challenge them for the silverware?

We await the competition full of adrenaline and with increasing chewed nails. Friday is training day for many teams, then the only show in town begins. UK Nationals 2010 - bring it on!
