Did You Know...

... that things turned out differently than they looked like in Round 6?

No more obstacles for Airspeed?

posted Jan 12th, 2010 - The scores for the second round of the day were posted really late in Dubai. However, they are up now, and they brought new surprises.

Arizona Airspeed has continued to successfully maintain the 20-point and up per round streak today. The world champions were the only team with a 2 at the beginning of the score in Round 5, and Round 6 was a faster one anyway.

Nothing seems to be in the way any longer to add another meet with only 20-pointers and up from here on. It is once again impressive that slower rounds, point deductions, little hickups here and there and even the exits from the Bell 212 helicopter have not slowed down Airspeed enough to go below 20.

Hayabusa Sheik Roy Janssen
However, the meet is far from being over. It is still only a 2-point difference between Airspeed and Hayabusa Defence. The Belgian team will probably feel even much better after seeing the scores for Round 6, as there were new surprises on both sides.

Hayabusa thought that there would be a 4-point difference going into the last two rounds, as Roy Janssen commented after the team's Round 6:

"After six rounds four points behind Airspeed with still two rounds to go! Overal feeling of our performance is good :-) Looking forward to fight in those last rounds for all we've got!!"

Unpleasant surprise on the scoreboard for Airspeed
Hayabusa is looking at a 2-point difference instead, as the other surprise on the Airspeed end leveled the scores for Round 6 at 26 points for both teams. Airspeed had expected a 27 on the scoreboard, maybe even a 28 for this round:

"Down from Round 6 with an unofficial 27, possibly 28. Finally a strong feeling jump. We aren't sure where we stand, but we certainly can't complain about the jump."

There might be a complaint after learning that there was only a 26-pointer on the scoreboard. The judges once again saw something that is very difficult to detect. The audience can try to find the infringement situation, as Airspeed has posted the jump on the team's Facebook page.

Unpleasant Round 6 for Canada Evolution
Other things have changed even more dramatically. France Aerodyne Cypres Maubeuge came up with the team's strongest jump of the meet and tied Airspeed's and Hayabusa's highscore for the round. Coach Marin Ferre as the alternate in the Point slot must be very happy with his team's performance in Round 6.

It happened with a perfect timing from the French perspective since Canada Evolution had the worst jump of the meet at the same time and lost seven points in just this one round. All of a sudden, France is back in 3rd place and even has a 4-point lead over Evolution. The French lineup in Dubai now has the momentum on its side after winning both rounds over Canada today. Round 6 was also the first highscore on the scoreboard for the French team, shared with Hayabusa and Airspeed.

By the way, the French national team in the female 4-way category, Aerokart Deep Blue Maubeuge, posted the next highest score of the round with the 21-pointer on the other leaderboard.
