Did You Know...

... that the Trained Amateurs competed for Georgia Tech in November?

Original Genesis lineup
posted Dec 24th, 2009 - Some more scores were recently added to the database. The Georgia Skydiving League completed the 2009 season with its third competition at Skydive The Farm.

Once again, it was a college team that caught the attention in Georgia. Georgia Tech teams have made the NSL News headlines many times in the past. It all began when Genesis (Shannon Pilcher, Ian Bobo, Kyle Collins, David van Greuningen, Eric Taylor) launched the 4-way team project and eventually moved from Georgia to Florida to pursue a full time skydiving career.

This happened already at the time when the National Skydiving League was formed in 1997 and before the NSL News provided the same journalistic services as today. However, the original Genesis team members continued in many ways and for many years and have been covered by the NSL News many times ever since.

Other Georgia Tech teams and competitors followed the example, such as GT Inviscid, and the NSL News also paid attention to other college teams that merged with the whole 4-way community at events outside of the college environment. VTSD, the Virginia Tech team that won the AA/Intermediate Class competition at the 2009 USPA National Skydiving Championships was the last college team that caught the NSL News attention this year.

A new Georgia Tech lineup, the Trained Amateurs (Nathan Briggs, Greg Lennartz, Travis O'Neal, Chris Wallis, with Ron Whitehead on camera) includes the current President and Vice-President of the GT college club. They won the A Class competition at the November meet of the Georgia Skydiving League with a 10.5 average. The college teams are now getting ready for the championship event, which is scheduled to begin on December 29. The NSL News had no information yet whether the GT Trained Amateurs will compete in Texas or not.

Nicole Ippolito, a passionate 4-way fan in Georgia who competes with the Farm Animals at the GSL meets, put together the video that summarizes the GSL 2009 season and introduces the GSL teams.
