Did You Know...

... that the Falcon competes against the Eagle Team at SkyQuest 2009?

posted Nov 11th, 2009 - The NSL News story on 8 November 2009 provided more details of the upcoming 100-way competition at SkyQuest 2009. The story mentioned that the rosters of the two teams would be posted very soon.

BJ Worth now released the two lineups and gave the two teams their names, as well. He is captaining the Eagle Team and Larry Henderson the Falcon Team. It will be a friendly competition for great quality. However, these two birds seem to have something else in their minds...

The Eagle Team (BJ Worth, Mike Johnston, Patrick Passe, Roger Ponce de Leon, Lou Tommaso, Solly Williams) has one more team captain than the Falcon Team (Larry Henderson, Pål Bergan, Kate Cooper-Jensen, Tom Jenkins, Victor Kravtsov), plus one Kaleidoscope Diver on the bench. The Falcon Team has lined up exactly 100 members. The videographers have not been assigned to any of the teams so far.

Alexander Beloglazov at SkyQuest 2008
As every year, there are many former and current 4-way and 8-way competitors in the lineup for the Kaleidoscope Dives 2009. BJ Worth himself is a former 8-way world champion with Mirror Image. Master spotter and plane captain Roger Ponce de Leon was his team mate by then.

Alexander Beloglazov in BJ's Eagle Team comes from a later generation of Formation Skydiving competitors. He was the captain of the Russian 8-way team that attended a World Championship of Formation Skydiving for the first time in 1985.

He continued with the Russian 8-way team in 1987 and guided Russia to her first set of bronze medals in Brazil. Norman Kent's video of the Russian team captain in the blue jump suit and with the white gloves became a part of the "From Wings Came Flight" skydiving movie.

Mario Mauro with DeLand VNE and Teiwaz team mates of 1993 and 2007
Norman Kent gave the NSL News permission to copy parts of this legendary movie, and the audience can watch Alexander Beloglazov in full action when it comes to the 8-way part of the clip. By the way: Roger Ponce de Leon is already spotting in the movie as he will be doing it again at SkyQuest 2009.

The same clip also features the 8-way world champions of 1987, the Golden Knights with team captain Andy Gerber, and the runner up, France. The US Army's 4-way team also won silver medals at the same event and follow in the clip. The French TAG team, 4-way world champion in 1987, completed the FS competition coverage in the movie.

The next 8-way competitor in historic order is one of Larry Henderson's plane captains of the Falcon Team. Pål Bergan competed for Norway's 8-way team in the early and mid 90's before Norway began to focus mainly on the 4-way event.

Janna Wynne with Jimani team mates at the USPA Nationals 2009
There are also a few Kaleidoscope Divers who cannot get too much jumping at SkyQuest 2009. Janna Wynne and Mario Mauro, both Eagle Team members, will also compete in the 4-way event, the NSL Championship 2009, at the same time.

Mario Mauro just attended the 2009 USPA National Skydiving Championships with Ranch Delivery, as the NSL News reported on 9 November 2009. He has signed up for the Teiwaz lineup at SkyQuest. He is not a new Teiwaz member...

Janna Wynne is a Perris Jimani member and also competed at the USPA Nationals 2009. Jimani is the defending NSL champion in the AA Class competition. Her team is coming to DeLand with player coach Christy Frikken this time to defend the title. Janna Wynne did not want to miss Jimani's 4-way fun and signed up for both events. Mario Mauro and Janny Wynne both have a lot of jumping to do at SkyQuest 2009.
