posted Sep 28th, 2026 - The Intermediate Class competition at the USPA Nationals 2026 featured three very different situations at the top of the leaderboard. The winner, Spaceland Pajama Party, created a larger gap to the second-place team than any other category winner in the 4-way events. In the end, the Texas team finished eleven points ahead of CSC Singularity in the silver-medal position.

On the other hand, the same leaderboard also showed a unique and historic situation in USPA competition. Nine teams shared the nine-point high score for Round 4, with only silver medalists Aircognito one point behind in that particular round. Round 4 (6,1) featured a slow sequence, where teams are usually and naturally closer together. However, Round 3 also had a slow sequence (4,8), and the teams were more spread out from each other.

Last but not least, Pajama Party needed just one round to secure the gold medals: the Super Sequence in Round 8 (Q,H,O,F). Pajama Party shook off any potential contenders in this round who may still have been within reach beforehand. CSC Singularity were still only two points behind the leaders after Round 7. Pajama Party's seven-point advantage in the Super Sequence sealed the deal, and the Texas team added another two points to their lead over the final two rounds. CSC Singularity at least secured the silver medals by three points over Aircognito and Zhills Door BlockerZ, who had to break their tie in an extra round.

Spaceland Pajama Party were obviously well prepared for a potential Super Sequence by their team coach, Kyle Hermberg, and their attendance at three meets earlier this year provided them with more than just valuable competition experience. Each of the three outdoor meets, with a total of 26 competition rounds, also included a Super Sequence. Coach Kyle Hermberg and his team were obviously aware of the importance of a Super Sequence whenever one is drawn in a competition. The Golden Knights and all 4-way Open and Advanced Class teams had the same experience, with the respective results in their Round 1.

Super Sequences are less likely to appear in an AAA Class draw, while the chances are significantly higher in the AA Class and even guaranteed in the A Class. The Beginner Class (A) has eight blocks in the dive pool for the ten rounds. This means there will be at least two sequences consisting only of random formations, even without taking Block 9 into consideration.

Intermediate Class teams (AA) are facing only 16 of the 22 AAA Class blocks, while all 16 random formations remain in the draw. Mathematically, the chances of a Super Sequence appearing during the ten rounds of an AA/Intermediate Class competition are therefore significantly higher than in the AAA/Open/Advanced Class. Pajama Party and coach Kyle Hermberg apparently had the knowledge, experience, and training to be particularly well prepared for this situation.

The highscores for all the other rounds show that Spaceland Pajama Party won the competition with a consistent performance over the other nine rounds, while pulling away from the field in Round 8. Pajama Party's total after nine rounds (92) compares with the combined total of the nine highscores by the other teams, which amounted to 95 points.

The teams in the three medal positions also had more meet experience than the other teams. Spaceland Pajama Party led the field in previous meet attendances in the Texas Skydiving League. The silver medalists, CSC Singularity from the Midwest Skydiving League, had won the USPA Beginner Class in 2024 after two previous meet experiences. They moved up to the AA Class at the USPA Nationals 2025, where they finished in eighth place. This year's second-place finish allows them to compete again in the same category, while Spaceland Pajama Party will now have to start training with the AAA/Open/Advanced Class dive pool and rules.

Florida team Zhills Door BlockerZ, with no previous meet experience as a lineup, lost the extra round in the tie-breaker against Aircognito, the USPA Beginner Class winner in 2025. Neither of the two Florida teams outside the medal positions had competed with their current lineups before traveling to Skydive Perris, although most of their team members had previous competition experience with other teams.
