posted Sep 21st, 2026 - After capturing the USPA 16-way gold medals, Arizona Airspeed added the 10-way Speed gold medals to their haul, becoming the most successful USPA competitors at the USPA Nationals 2026. Michelle Karamon, Alisson de Vargas, Doug Hendrix, team captain Joey Marshall, and team videographer Alex Swindle won three of the four horizontal formation skydiving events (4-way Open, 16-way Open, and 10-way Speed). They also brought the 8-way silver medals back to Skydive Arizona.

The most valuable set of gold medals might be the 10-way Speed title, where the complete 4-way lineup surprised teams, competitors, spectators, and media with a bold move: including Shawn Hill in the active lineup. Hill is the owner and operator of Skydive Arizona. Airspeed members have always had a competitive attitude and a desire to win the events they participate in. Shawn Hill is not a current or former world champion, and he had to earn the 10-way gold with his own freefall performance, even while surrounded by current and former 4-way and 8-way world champions.

It was certainly not a walk in the park for Airspeed's 10-way team, as the scores demonstrate. Inappropriate In10tions and Skyrens both put pressure on the world's top performers, as the times from the six rounds show. In fact, Inappropriate In10tions even won the final round, when the 10-way Speed teams had to exit from the DC-9. It was a close call in Round 6, just as there were close calls in several of the other rounds.

Dan BC, Jack Jefferies, Craig Girard, Niklas Hemlin, and Josh Hall completed Airspeed's 10-way Speed lineup. Of the current 4-way members in this 10-way lineup, only Michelle Karamon, Alisson de Vargas, and Doug Hendrix have not yet won 4-way Open Class world championship titles.

Their opportunity to win FAI World Championship gold medals in the most prestigious event in the sport will not come before 2028. Even their surprising first-place finish ahead of the Golden Knights last week will not create a shortcut or provide faster access to FAI gold medals. Airspeed can compete for the FAI World Cup title in 2027, where each country can send up to four teams to the event. However, U.S. qualification for the next outdoor world championship will take place at the USPA Nationals 2027.

Shawn Hill and Skydive Arizona could hardly have received better evidence that their signature team is on its way to bringing the William H. Ottley Sword back to Skydive Arizona. The sword is awarded to the FAI 4-way Open Class world champions and is also referred to as the “4-way Excalibur”. It remains currently located at Skydive Arizona, even though the sword will have to be handed over next month to either Aethers Lille (FR), NMP PCH HayaBusa (BE), or Golden Knights (US). Arizona Airspeed and Shawn Hill will continue working together toward the goal of bringing it back to Eloy. After winning the 10-way Speed gold medals, they are probably even more closely connected in pursuit of that goal.
