Did You Know...

... that twelve 4-way teams competed last weekend in Perris?

SCSL 4-way boarding at Skydive Perris
posted Aug 22nd, 2026 - The Southern California Skydiving League was back in 4-way action last weekend. Christy Frikken, together with Mary SantAngelo, invited their teams to the second SCSL 4-way event of the year, following the first competition in April.

This time, Christy Frikken, Mary SantAngelo, and the SCSL teams had better luck with the weather. Only one competition round was completed by all teams in April. Last weekend, however, all twelve teams completed all five rounds at the hosting site of the USPA Nationals 2026, Skydive Perris.

The event was one of many that Christy Frikken and Mary SantAngelo organize for skydivers in Southern California and visiting teams. The 4-way events alone have attracted a total of 48 teams, all of which also participate in the additional internal rankings offered by Christy Frikken and Mary SantAngelo. They also track individual performances and results across all categories, including 6-way and 8-way. The latest event this year is the "Ghost Nationals," described as "a redo, a first meet, or a team-building test before next season." The "Ghost Nationals" also includes the SCSL awards ceremony at the Bombshelter restaurant at Skydive Perris.

Canadian T over USPA host Skydive Perris
A very special event is the Dueling DZs event on October 25, one of the 6-way competitions. Each team exits over the gap between Elsinore and Perris, performs the 6-way sequence, and lands at the opposing dropzone. The teams board the aircraft right there and repeat the same process three more times—without shuttles or ground crew, just four rounds of back-and-forth competition with a spectacular view of the landscape between Skydive Elsinore and Skydive Perris.

The friendly duel between Skydive Elsinore and Skydive Perris concludes after the final round with a celebration at Canyon Lake, featuring awards, appetizers, and the kind of socializing "that only happens when two dropzone communities spend a day sharing the same sky," Christy Frikken explains.

Last weekend's AAA Class winner, Perris Livin', currently leads the SCSL 2026 leaderboard after stepping up to AAA Class competition this year. The lineup includes player-coach Dan Brodsky-Chenfield, an original member of Arizona Airspeed. Perris Prime member Jay Richards currently holds first place on the AA Class leaderboard with his 4-way team. He also tops the individual rankings, which include 76 SCSL participants.

New GLSL 4-way competitors at Aerohio Skydiving
The 4-way A Class teams in Southern California shared last weekend's leaderboard with teams from the Great Lakes Skydiving League. GLSL host Aerohio Skydiving was not as fortunate with the weather as the host in California.

Three A Class teams completed three rounds, with Aerohio using the GLSL meet to introduce newer skydivers to 4-way competition. Spearheaded by Erika Woodrum and supported by other experienced competitors, the three teams joined the A Class leaderboard. Rain dampened the day and limited the teams to three jumps from lower altitudes.

Despite the weather, the participants' enthusiasm made for a fun and memorable day. Each team had its own special moments while gaining valuable experience and creating memories through formation skydiving competition. The local organizers hope the new participants from the three pick-up teams will continue training and competing. The strongest of the three A Class teams even posted the highest score on the combined A Class leaderboard in Round 2.
