posted Apr 12th, 2026 - The Aethers provided the exceptionally solid foundation for the double-gold success at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2026, as the NSL News pointed out yesterday. However, they still needed a second half for their French 8-way team that could match their flying and competitive standards. Nephtys rose to that challenge and helped secure the second set of gold medals for the French delegation at Weembi Lille.

Original Arizona Airspeed member Kirk Verner reminded the NSL News of an earlier instance where a 4-way team also won an FAI/ISC event in 8-way. His original Airspeed lineup achieved the same double-gold success at the FAI World Cup 1996 in Belgium. He is expected to provide more details about that event later this week. However, the French double gold at Weembi Lille still marks the first such achievement at an indoor competition.

Aethers did not concede a single round at the Indoor World Cup. Only NMP PCH Hayabusa managed to match the French high score once, in Round 3. Their dominance in 4-way Open was as overwhelming as in previous indoor and outdoor competitions. The Golden Knights finished in second place behind Aethers this time, after the Belgian team had won their previous head-to-head at the Wind Games 2026. Aethers and the Golden Knights will now transition quickly to outdoor competition, where they will directly compare scoring performances at the Shamrock Showdown 2026 - 1st Bob Hallett Memorial next weekend. Arizona Airspeed will join the two top 4-way teams in the world and may hold an advantage in outdoor readiness after skipping the Indoor World Cup.

Aethers - Golden Knights - NMP PCH HayaBusa at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2026

The NSL News noted on April 9th that Russian 4-way teams were not permitted to travel to France to participate in the FAI Indoor World Cup. Instead, they organized a parallel event in a wind tunnel in Moscow, once again using the identical competition draw simultaneously with the teams competing at Weembi Lille. Scores and videos from the first two rounds in 4-way Women were posted on April 9th, and the next update provided the same information after Round 6.

Four Russian teams also completed all ten rounds of the 4-way Open Class competition in Moscow, effectively mirroring the event held at Weembi Lille as part of their EASA Indoor Cup. None of them were able to challenge the medalists in a direct comparison, and even the young Czech team Skywalkers Most finished ahead of all participating Russian teams.

However, the Russian 4-way Open delegation would still have placed three teams within the Top 10 overall rankings. Their strongest lineup, Strike, would have been only four points behind Skywalkers Most. Two of its members, Olga Bykova and Alena Chistova, are accustomed to an even higher level of performance as former members of the 4-way Women team Bubbles, world champions at the FAI Tanay Mondial in 2021. Their teammates, Yury Drozdov and Alexander Golovkin, are also highly experienced Russian 4-way and 8-way competitors.
