Out Of The Blue at the BENELUX Indoor Championship 2026
posted Apr 3rd, 2026 - The NSL News provided comprehensive coverage of the Out Of The Blue (OOTB) performance at the BENELUX Indoor Championship 2026, with an update published on March 26th. In particular, the scores achieved by NMP PCH HayaBusa, OOTB, and Ayro were impressive enough to warrant special attention, even though the Super Sequence in Round 10 contributed to elevated results across the entire AAA Class leaderboard.

Unfortunately, the officially posted scores—not only for this event—had to be corrected afterward due to a timing issue in the judging process. The NSL News published revised scores for the BENELUX Indoor Championship 2026, initially covering only the top four teams, in a subsequent update on March 31st.

The corrected lower scores and meet averages did not affect the national indoor championship medal standings for Belgium and the Netherlands. However, any record-setting performances—such as for the Super Sequence in Round 10—cannot be granted official status unless re-evaluated using an FAI/ISC-approved judging system. The originally reported 69-point score for NMP PCH HayaBusa in Round 10 would have constituted an indoor world record, but it was ultimately adjusted to 65 points within working time. OOTB still achieved a new team record average after the corrections, regardless of the 48-point Round 10 score. Their 24.7 average over the first nine rounds marks the first 24+ result in team history and in a 10-round competition.

The upgrade of OOTB in the NSL Power Rankings was more than justified, particularly as this was the first competition for the current lineup, featuring two new members, Siem Ibens and Timmy De Smet. The NSL News had already introduced the new lineup in an update published on January 13th.

The lineup change had been carefully planned well in advance. The NSL News spoke with the Ibens family—Sven and Annelies Hasewinkel-Ibens, along with their son Siem Ibens—during the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025 at Skydive Teuge in the Netherlands. At that time, the entire family was already aware of the transition and could openly discuss that 18-year-old Siem Ibens would join the Dutch national team Out Of The Blue following the outdoor world cup and compete at the national outdoor championship in September. It was also widely understood that Siem Ibens ultimately aimed to secure a position on the NMP PCH HayaBusa lineup when an opportunity would arise.

Half a year later, the NSL News revisited the current OOTB situation. The impressive performance of the new lineup at last month’s national indoor championship provided ample reason to schedule a new NSL Live Talk for an update with the Ibens family. Only father Sven and son Siem Ibens were available for the conversation last night, and both were ready to share their perspectives.

Sven and Siem Ibens
Sven Ibens is proud of the remarkable 4-way progression his son Siem has demonstrated, especially since joining the OOTB lineup. The Dutch team is on track to reach unprecedented ranking and performance levels in the country’s 4-way history. At the same time, he is well aware that NMP PCH HayaBusa are closely monitoring that same progression.

HayaBusa serves as a direct link between the Ibens family and Out Of The Blue. Sven Ibens is an original founding member of the Belgian national team, while his son Siem trains and competes with the Dutch squad. Sven Ibens is widely regarded as a pioneer of formation skydiving competition in Belgium. He laid the groundwork for the four world championship titles and multiple CISM victories achieved by the national team. He also supports HayaBusa’s current team captain, Dennis Praet, in coaching both the Dutch national team and his now 19-year-old son.

Over the past years, Siem Ibens has gained a deeper understanding of his father’s contributions to the sport and to the exceptional results achieved by their small European country in 4-way competition. He is just as proud of his father’s accomplishments and expertise as his father is of him. Siem first entered a wind tunnel at the age of two and is now studying sports science at university. It would not be surprising if a future opening on the HayaBusa lineup were to be filled by the next Ibens 4-way competitor.
