An extraordinary group of teams and competitors is currently training at the only wind tunnel in the United States with a 16-foot flying chamber. To capture as much coverage and insight as possible, the NSL News scheduled a field trip to the facility.
Gary Smith, head coach of NMP PCH HayaBusa, had little time for a visit to his home on the island of Texel in the Netherlands. Instead, he continued his odyssey with a trip
to North Carolina, where he will spend several days working with SDC Rhythm XP.
In addition to once again guiding NMP PCH HayaBusa to a convincing performance at the Wind Games 2026, Gary Smith has been closely observing the entire competition and assessing potential opponents for the teams he coaches. The NSL News hopes to catch some of his valuable time—between coaching duties and recovery from jet lag—for an update and evaluation of last week’s event in Spain.

Ahead of their own training session on Tuesday, they shared insights from their recent experiences across the formation skydiving competition circuit with the NSL News and its audience. Jeana Billings also confirmed to the NSL News that she has resumed double duties in both 4-way and 8-way events—at least for the indoor winter season—together with fellow XP8 member Jennifer Davidson. They continue the XP4 program with a similar 4-way Women lineup to the one that competed in Abu Dhabi. NSL News
will follow up with more details on this topic.
Jeana Billings has also resumed her involvement with the local Indoor Cloud League team, submitting scores and videos for the first month of the year. Kirk Verner and new 8-way teammate James Hall supported her as player-coaches for the ICL event.
Together, they could easily have assembled a highly experienced 4-way lineup for the January event and produced significantly higher scores for the Paraclete XP team. Instead, they see greater value in supporting the beginner level and helping new participants progress to the
next stages of 4-way training and competition.
Following the event, Billings explained how she “borrowed some flyers from the teams in training (Platinum XP and XPerimental) to help strengthen the group and give everyone a good experience—especially since some of them were flying in the tunnel for the first time: "We could’ve thrown together a coach team for much higher scores.” However, her goal was to maximize flying time for participants and create positive experiences that encourage greater participation in 4-way through word of mouth. The return of the ICL Midwest team and Paraclete XP points to a promising new Indoor Cloud League season.
