... that NSL Live Talk with Sonic brings back R2G memories?

Sonic with Ranch 2nd Generation in 2015
posted Jan 16th, 2026 - The story of the 4-way team Ranch 2nd Generation was clearly not over when the team disbanded after the USPA Nationals 2019. Since then, the team name (R2G) has continued to appear regularly in NSL News updates, with renewed attention recently following Michelle Karamon’s recruitment to Arizona Airspeed for the new lineup. The NSL Live Talk conversation with Michelle Karamon on January 13th offered her personal insights and reflections on her competitive career, including her time with Ranch 2nd Generation.

Her former R2G teammates—reigning 4-way world champions Joey Marshall and Chris Kuhlmann—have spoken just as frequently about their first 4-way team over the years. Still, there is one person who knows the team and its members better than anyone else. He recently took the time to join NSL Live Talk and share his memories and experiences with the NSL News and its audience.

Kamuran Bayrasli, better known as “Sonic,” was on camera for Ranch 2nd Generation from the team’s founding at Blue Sky Ranch in New York State in 2015. He filmed the team at each of the five USPA National Championships they attended between 2015 and 2019. Sonic’s skydiving equipment sales business, the Ranch Pro Shop, had already been based at Blue Sky Ranch for many years before Ranch 2nd Generation was formed. Through this connection, he came to know the team’s future 4-way and 8-way world champions long before their names became widely recognized.

The NSL News has followed the development and progression of the team since 2015, while Sonic contributed additional insights that only he could remember and recall. He shared these during the NSL Live Talk conversation, even though the slightly more than 30 minutes available could only scratch the surface of the many memories and experiences.

Sonic is a natural communicator, which also connected him with the NSL News on a different level. The audience may recall that he anchored several NSL Live Talk interviews at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2025. For many years, he attended competitions primarily as a spectator—often accompanied by his wife Donna—cheering first for R2G, and later for Arizona Airspeed when Joey Marshall and Chris Kuhlmann were training and competing with the reigning world-champion team.

At Paraclete XP, Sonic volunteered to host NSL Live Talk interviews, asking teams and competitors about their performances, impressions, and experiences. This time, however, he took the opposite role in a new and very current NSL Live Talk conversation, answering NSL News’ questions about the turbulent years his former teammates Joey Marshall and Chris Kuhlmann experienced after winning world championship titles in 2022 and 2024. He also shared detailed R2G memories from the period after Michelle Karamon joined Ranch 2nd Generation in 2016, as well as reflections on the following three years with different R2G lineups.

Sonic recalled the period when Brenn Richards, the youngest member of R2G, needed to take a break from competition. The team first replaced her with Chris Haslam in 2018, and later with Jeana Billings. The final R2G lineup eventually surpassed the 20-average benchmark at the USPA Nationals 2019, with Sonic capturing the achievement on camera.

Sonic did not follow Joey Marshall and Chris Kuhlmann to Arizona when they were recruited by Niklas Hemlin and Mikhail Markine for the next generation of Arizona Airspeed. David French also did not continue on the Airspeed camera, which left an open slot that Sonic could have filled. However, he chose instead to continue running the Ranch Pro Shop together with his wife Donna. Brendan Haddon filmed Airspeed to FAI gold medals in Eloy 2022, while Alex Swindle was on camera at Crystal Coast 2024.

The third R2G founding member from 2015, Brenn Richards, returned to 4-way training and competition with XPG4 in 2021. There, she reunited with her R2G teammate from 2016 and 2017, Michelle Karamon, along with R2G 2019 member Jeana Billings. Together, they won the FAI 4-way Women gold medals at Crystal Coast 2024. Sonic added that he would consider returning to the camera slot if his 2016/2017 team came back together—whether under the Ranch 2nd Generation name or as Arizona Airspeed.
