Did You Know...

... that the Weembinamic 2025 produced new and unusual results?

New Paraclete XP8 lineup
posted Nov 26th, 2025 - The annual Weembinamic indoor competition at Weembi Lille—host of the upcoming FAI Indoor World Cup in April 2026—once again delivered unusual and unexpected results. The event’s creator, Julien Degen, former French 4-way and 8-way world champion in traditional formation skydiving, introduced this alternative competition format years ago, and it has since become particularly popular in the 8-way community.

The format uses the standard FAI/ISC dive pool, but all teams first complete four rounds to establish an initial leaderboard. This ranking then determines the match-ups for three sets of two elimination rounds (5/6, 7/8, and 9/10). During these stages, two or three teams face each other directly. Despite the name, it is not a true elimination format—teams continue through all ten rounds even after losing a duel, meeting new opponents according to the rules of the system.

This year’s NSL News review begins with the 8-way competition, which drew the largest turnout among the three categories (8-way, 4-way AAA, 4-way AA), with 18 teams. The field included the reigning indoor and outdoor world champions of Paraclete XP8, represented at Weembi Lille by Jeana Billings and Kirk Verner, who guided their new lineup through its first Weembinamic. They faced two strong French 8-way teams that are also likely contenders for the 8-way event at the next Indoor World Cup.

Nova - Paraclete XP8 at the Weembinamic 2025
D'Arc8 lineup at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2025
The difference between the traditional scoring format and the Weembinamic elimination format was more dramatic in 8-way than ever before, even though a similar situation occurred in 4-way. The team that topped the traditional leaderboard—listed only in NSL News records—ultimately finished third in the Weembinamic 2025 standings.

Nova, led by team captain Emmanuel Sarrazin, French 8-way world champion in 2006 and 2008, posted a new team record average of 29.5 after the cleanest ten-round performance among the top contenders. Nova actually finished one point ahead of Paraclete XP8 (295–294). XP8 lost their lead only after ten point deductions in the final round with the fastest sequence. Yet neither of these two teams, who occupied the top of the traditional leaderboard, won the actual Weembinamic 2025.

Instead, D’Arc8, led by French formation skydiving legend Martial Ferré and competing with nearly the same lineup used at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2025, claimed the title. Although they trailed Nova and XP8 by six and seven points on the traditional leaderboard and earned or shared a highscore in only one of the ten rounds, their 29-point Round 8 secured a crucial duel win against Nova. D’Arc8 then benefited from XP8’s ten-point penalty in Round 10, after losing Round 9 to the U.S. team by five points. All three teams will have the chance for rematches at the Indoor World Cup, where up to four teams may represent each country.
