Did You Know...

... that the combined AAA/Open/Advanced Class leaderboard offers more interesting aspects?

4-way Advanced Class awards at the USPA Nationals 2025
posted Nov 8th, 2025 - The combined AAA Class leaderboard (4-way Open/Advanced) of the USPA Nationals 2025 that the NSL News posted on November 6th offers more interesting aspects than only the positioning of the new U.S. national team in 4-way Women, Ranch TNT.

In fact, the combined AAA Class leaderboard includes three different USPA categories. The 4-way Open Class accommodates the most experienced 4-way teams and competitors and every team that feels like being on the same leaderboard with the best teams in the world. There is no athletic minimum requirement to sign up for the 4-way Open Class competition. Any teams who plan to qualify for the U.S. delegation at FAI/ISC world cups or world championships have to compete in 4-way Open to be considered. The earlier NSL News update mentioned that 4-way Women teams Ranch TNT and XP Angels signed up for the 4-way Open Class competition even though they would have been eligible for USPA Advanced Class medals.

The 4-way Advanced Class has USPA rules that define eligibility for this category: "Teams in Advanced, Intermediate, or Beginner classes are restricted to a maximum number of one member who has won a gold medal in that class, or any medal in a higher class of the same event at any USPA National Skydiving Championships, or in the same event at an FAI First Category Event, at any time in the prior five calendar years."

Elsinore Elevate - Redline XP - AF 9Ball at the USPA Nationals 2025
4-way Advanced Class awards at the USPA Nationals 2019
Team members of 4-way Advanced Class winner AF 9Ball have never won USPA Advanced Class gold medals with the same lineup of the last five years. Jarrod Aranda, Mike Bush, Matt Hepp and Chase Scully started with a 10th place in 2021, moved up to 5th place in 2022, 6th in 2023, 5th again in 2024. This year, they won their first USPA medals with the 1st place in 4-way Advanced.

Two 4-way Open Class teams who scored higher than AF 9Ball would actually have been eligible for USPA Advanced Class medals, as well. Elsinore Elevate had competed in the Advanced Class of the USPA Nationals 2019 and finished only in 2nd place. However, this year's lineup, with two members of 2019 (Josh Hall, Zack Winoker), plus Jim Klinge Patrick Lehner and Amanda Cole on camera, would have easily won the 4-way Advanced Class gold medals and still decided to compete in 4-way Open, where they finished in 4th place.

Redline XP, USPA's 4-way Advanced Class champions of 2019, came back with two winners (Louis French, Matthew Hunt), which would be too many for USPA eligibility and new medals in the same category. However, the 5-year rule would have brought back eligibility for the new Redline XP lineup (Alex Bucevicius, Jonathan Perl, Radim Studeny on camera). They would have finished ahead of AF 9Ball, as well, while they had decided to follow Elsinore Elevate into the 4-way Open Class competition. Ranch TNT could have won the 4-way Advanced Class silver medals behind AF 9Ball and took the 4-way Women slot in the U.S. delegation for 2026 over the USPA Advanced Class medals.
