Did You Know...

... that Airbus 4-way seem to be ready for the next step?

More bad weather in Naumur: NMP PCH HayaBusa
posted Sep 17th, 2025 - The last NSL News update from Germany's national outdoor championship came after the one round that the two 8-way teams completed on September 12th, the Thursday last week that turned out to be the last day of the competition. Meet director, teams and competitors had decided to terminate the event early due to the weather conditions.

The weather did not improve much in Central Europe, as the 4-way teams at the BENELUX Championship completed exactly the same number of rounds in Naumur, beginning on the day when the German nationals were terminated. Only the Dutch 8-way team Tetris finished with one more round. Both events had almost exactly the same number of registered teams waiting for better weather in both events.

Unfortunately, the weather situation in Germany continued in Belgium throughout the weekend, and all participating teams at both events did not get to their highly anticipated Super Sequences. The competition draw in Germany included a Super Sequence in Round 8 of the ten 4-way and the 8-way sequences both, and a different 4-way Super Sequence waited for the Belgian and Dutch team in the extra round for a tie-breaker. Despite the bad weather at both events and only four rounds, there was probably at least one team that left the competition site in Germany, Skyfactory in Stadtlohn, encouraged and motivated.

4-way Awards at the German Outdoor Nationals
Airbus Illertissen Oceanside actually completed seven 4-way jumps in the time period that they spent in Stadtlohn. The NSL News update on September 9th, with a preview of the German outdoor championship, featured the three training jumps that the Airbus 4-way team completed at the event site before the competition draw.

The three different training jumps and the four competition rounds together confirmed that the German national team in 4-way Open has entered the 19-average benchmark level with the new lineup who started together this year. The previous lineup disbanded after four years with the 19.0 finish at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2024. The current lineup, with new members Claire Rebhahn (Tail) and Tim Mack (Point), confirmed the same performance level at the end of their first year.

Airbus had started the new lineup with a 16.5 average at the Shamrock Showdown 2025 and moved it up to 18.0 at the Paranodon Cup in June. They were not sure if they would be able to make the next move to the next level at the last outdoor competition of the year, and they decided to focus only on winning the qualification to next year's outdoor world championship last week by skipping the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025. The 19-average level after the seven training and competition jumps in Stadtlohn sets Airbus up already by now as a contender for the highest position behind the FAI medal rankings next year.

Dark NeVa - Fi4na - Air Mix at the German Outdoor Nationals 2025
Unofficial amateur world champions of 2024: Echochamber
Airbus did not need the Super Sequence to get to the 19.0 average after the four competition rounds. In fact, the score for Round 8 would have lifted the meet average more to an unrealistic average number for a 10-round competition. Airbus coach Michele Silvi explained on September 9th that the sequence for Round 8 (F,M,N,E,B) would have been one of the fastest ones ever drawn.

The first four rounds of the actual competition was a more realistic test, as they included a total of nine blocks. Each of the three Airbus training jumps had included two blocks, as well. It seems like the German team is on track to approach the magic 20-average level next year, which brings every team even closer to the precious position right behind the FAI medal winners. Sweden's Echochamber won the unofficial amateur world championship at Crystal Coast last year, young Czech team Skywalkers Most earlier this month at the outdoor world cup. The 19.0 average last week is a solid foundation for the next step, and the new lineup have their whole second year to get there successfully.

German 8-way team Operation Adler is also qualified for the next outdoor world championship after the one round in Stadtlohn. The 14-pointer in Round 1 is a very promising start, as well, and the team members have begun to discuss the 2026 season, with the outdoor world championship as the main target. Operation Adler will be the defending FAI bronze medalists.
