Did You Know...

... that Qatar could win two sets of FAI/CISM gold medals this year?

CISM competitors: NMP PCH HayaBusa
posted Aug 18th, 2025 - The FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025 at Skydive Teuge alone is offering the usual exciting ten rounds with all kind of different goals and battles on the different leaderboards of Formation Skydiving competition. It still is the most relevant competition of the year, even though other events are at least as important for several of the participating teams.

The full-time competitors of the military teams still have to attend their CISM World Championship in November, where they deliver the results of their state-sponsored training to the respective governments and military headquarters. NMP PCH HayaBusa have mentioned often enough in NSL Live Talk conversations how important their performances at the CISM world championships are.

This year's event in November will probably be one of the most exciting ones, as the Belgian CISM team will be facing a very challenging situation, maybe the most challenging one in team history. The previous HayaBusa lineups have won the military world championship title 16 consecutive times since 2007. David Grauwels stepped back from camera into the active lineup last year to help defending the title once again successfully. This November, the new lineup with Ray Lodens will take over, and David Grauwels can only watch from above the formations. It happens at a time when the new lineup will be facing more pressure than ever.

Qatar is hosting the event on home turf in Doha, and the Tigers will be one of the two strongest opponents for the Belgians. The NSL News reported earlier when the Qatar delegation separated their 4-way teams. The Tigers continued with coach Andy Grauwels, former HayaBusa 4-way world champion, and they have focused only on the preparations for the CISM world championship on their home turf.

Gary Smith and Luc Verstrepen switched to being in charge of creating the new generations of Qatar 4-way and 8-way competitors, with Lions and Cheetahs and two junior teams, who both competed at the Shamrock Showdown 2025. The Tigers recruited a member of the Lions for the 2025 lineup and have now switched back to their lineup of the last decade. The Tigers outscored NMP PCH HayaBusa's new lineup at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2024 to win their second set of bronze medals at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2024. There is no doubt that they plan to copy this success at the CISM event this November in Qatar.

Finishing ahead of NMP PCH HayaBusa still does not win the CISM world championship title automatically. The Golden Knights could be the strongest opponent for Belgium and Qatar both at CISM event. They challenged The HayaBusa lineup with David Grauwels already last year and were only four points behind after the eight CISM rounds.

FAI bronze for Qatar Tigers at FAI Outdoor 2024
The U.S. Army team may have the most exciting second half of the year to come. They will test the Belgian strength of the new lineup at the outdoor world cup very soon before meeting them again in Qatar three months later, together with Spain's military Papea team. In between, the Golden Knights have to win the USPA Nationals in October to qualify for the FAI outdoor world championship next year. Arizona Airspeed is the major obstacle for the Golden Knights, especially on home turf at Skydive Arizona in Eloy.

The CISM battle in freefall could offer the most exciting 4-way competition of the year, then on home turf for the Qatar Tigers, who can focus their training only on the CISM dive pool and sequences. NMP PCH HayaBusa and Golden Knights both have to know all tricks of FAI and CISM rules and regulations.

The Qatar Tigers could be closer to the first 4-way gold medals than ever, and it would lift the new formation skydiving powerhouse to the gold medal level. The Qatar Falcons will probably win the first FAI gold medals in 8-way Open for Qatar at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025. There is a realistic chance that Qatar teams win CISM and FAI gold medals this year in 4-way and in 8-way. Golden Knights and NMP PCH HayaBusa will try to stop this from happening at the CISM event, while the Falcons don't seem to have any serious opposition on the 8-way leaderboard at Skydive Teuge.
