Did You Know...

... that Havoc unify indoor and outdoor championship titles in Australia?

Havoc at Skydive Crystal Coast in 2024
posted Aug 13th, 2025 - The NSL News introduced the third different team from Australia at the FAI/ISC events in the last three years with the update on July 13th. Whitefish had represented Australia at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2023, Havoc at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2024, and Chop Chop! will travel to Skydive Teuge in the Netherlands this month.

All three teams have been dealing with the same situation that is being caused by the world's and the sport's geography. Summer (outdoor) and winter (indoor) season are reversed between the eastern and western hemispheres. The Australian 4-way teams just completed their national indoor championship, while teams in Europe and the Americas are in full outdoor swing with training and competition.

It is the sixth consecutive year that teams from the eastern hemisphere travel to Europe/America to participate in FAI/ISC indoor and outdoor events. There was one exception when China hosted the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024. However, Australian teams seem to prefer traveling to Europe or America, as no 4-way team attended the indoor competition in China and the eastern hemisphere. Teams from Europe and America traveled to Australia last time for the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2018 at Gold Coast. 19 countries sent their national 4-way Open Class teams to Australia , 17 of them visited from the western hemisphere.

Havoc - Redux - Chop! Chop! at the Australian Indoor Nationals 2025
Chop Chop! lineup of 2025
Only the team in 3rd place at the national indoor championship, Chop Chop!, have to switch quickly from the indoor to the outdoor environment, as they will represent Australia at the outdoor world cup at Skydive Teuge in the Netherlands. Australia's reigning national outdoor champion team, Havoc, who competed for their country at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2024, united the national indoor and outdoor 4-way championship titles after the dramatic 1-point indoor battle with the Redux 4-way veterans.

However, neither Havoc nor Redux are registered for the outdoor world cup where Chop Chop! represent Australia. Havoc had won the outdoor championship title much easier in April this year, and the reigning indoor and outdoor champions will probably try to defend both titles next year and travel to the U.S. west coast for the next outdoor world championship, after the visit at Crystal Coast last year.

Chop Chop! 2024 members Stacey Brosnan, Andrew Barker and Yuri Melo have lifted their outdoor performance and scoring level from 10+ last year to the 12-point average with new member Karen Hardy, and the current lineup finished only 10/11 points behind the first two places at the indoor championship this month. The 18.1 indoor average indicates that Chop Chop! could be ready for higher outdoor scores, as well. Havoc 's 19.2 indoor average with former Whitefish and Havoc member Alexander Cattaneo came after winning the outdoor title in April with a 14.9 average.

Rotor Out at the FAI World Championship 2014
Havoc had to work very hard to rescue a 1-point advantage over the finish line of the national indoor championship. It might have been easier for Havoc and Redux to get ready for the indoor event, as only Chop Chop! would have to switch quickly to outdoor training and competition to prepare for the outdoor world cup.

Redux must have pulled all their tricks that the team members had collected in their many years of 4-way competition to push Havoc up to a new team record average. Gary Nemirovsky and Darren Pearson were original team mates for Rotor Out in 2009. Simon Di Sciascio, and Rob Thomson competed for the same team with a different lineup at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2014. Simon Di Sciascio, Gary Nemirovsky and Rob Thomson have been back together since 2022, and they had original Rotor Out member Darren Pearson in their lineup this month. The national indoor championship turned out to be a new version of a Rotor Out reunion.

Redux had a 2-point advantage in the 1-point thriller throughout Round 5, after Havoc had lost a total of ten points in the first half of the meet. Havoc recovered and posted highscores in each of the remaining five rounds, which was still just enough to win by a single point. Chop Chop! in 3rd place still posted the highest score of the whole competition with the 32-pointer for the fastest sequence in Round 2 (F,Q,H,9). A new Chop Chop! team record average can probably be expected in Teuge.
