... that the French national 4-way Open Class team had a quick transition from outdoor to indoor?

FAI indoor gold medals in 2019
posted Mar 28th, 2023 - The French national team in 4-way Open and national coach Mathieu Bernier did not have much time for the transition from outdoor to indoor competition. They completed the ten rounds of the Shamrock Showdown 2023 on Saturday, March 11th, at Skydive DeLand in Florida, added some training jumps from the PAC 750XL on Sunday, traveled back to France on Monday and performed Round 1 of the French Indoor Nationals on Saturday, March 18th, at Aerokart in Paris, exactly seven days after Round 10 in DeLand.

The same lineup competed under a different name (Medjay Fullfly Bordeaux) and finished far ahead of the rest of the field. The lineup of the French national indoor and outdoor team in 4-way Open has always been identical since indoor competition was added to the FAI/ISC portfolio.

It has been different in France a few times in 4-way Women, where national coach Mathieu Bernier assigned two different lineups for the two different 4-way environments whenever it was promising enough. Claire Victoire De Fleurian, Elise Poindron, Jessica Thebault and Camille Villanneau competed for France at the Indoor World Cup 2018 in Bahrain, shortly after Clementine Le Bohec, Pamela Lissajoux, Christine Malnis and Sophia Pecout had won 4-way Women gold for France in Australia 2018, with Michel Laynaud on camera.

Only half a year later, the Weembi Nephtys (Claire Victoire De Fleurian, Clementine Le Bohec, Pamela Lissajoux, Elise Poindron) added indoor gold medals in 4-way Women at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2019, while Gaelle Giesen, Clementine Le Bohec, Christine Malnis and Sophia Pecout won the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019 in October, with Julie Fournier on camera.

French national teams in 4-way Open and 4-way Women Outdoor
FAI outdoor gold medals in 2019
It was a very successful strategy by Mathieu Bernier, as France won three sets of FAI gold medals in 4-way Women between October 2018 and October 2019, and he continued with the same format. The new outdoor lineups of 2021 (Gaelle Giesen, Pamela Lissajoux, Christine Malnis, Sophia Pecout) and 2022 (Gaelle Giesen, Sophia Pecout, Elise Poindron, Jessica Thebault) did not win gold medals, which were taken by Bubbles (Russia in 2021) and NFTO (Great Britain in 2022).

The indoor lineup of 2022 (Gaelle Giesen, Pamela Lissajoux, Elise Poindron, Jessica Thebault) were outscored by the HF Cubs at the FAI Indoor World Cup in Charleroi, and the three sets of FAI gold medals had turned into silver within a very similar time frame. However, the French medal collection of three sets of gold and four sets of silver in 4-way Women at the seven FAI events since October 2018 is still impressive enough, and the French delegation has two different lineups once again this year.

The NSL News reported on March 16th that Mathieu Bernier has recruited a very strong lineup in 4-way Women for the upcoming FAI Indoor World Championship. Sophia Pecout, Christine Malnis, Pamela Lissajoux and Elise Poindron instantly became one of the top contenders for this year's gold medals in 4-way Women when Mathieu Bernier announced the news. The first NSL Power Rankings of the event is showing a very strong group of four medal contenders on the top of the leaderboard.

New French lineup in 4-way Women
Mathieu Bernier's strategy of two different teams in 4-way Women for indoor and outdoor events is most likely coming to an end after the indoor world championship. The indoor lineup has only committed to training and competition throughout the event in April, while the new outdoor lineup completed the team's first ten competition rounds at the French Indoor Nationals.

Aérodyne Cypres France consist of two team members who will soon compete for France at the indoor world championship. Pamela Lissajoux and Elise Poindron have two team mates who have not been in any of the previous national teams, Alexandra Petitjean and Marie Pineau.

The new French national team in 4-way Women attended the national indoor championship ten days ago, where the lineup for the indoor world championship could not compete, with Pamela Lissajoux and Elise Poindron in both teams.

Mathieu Bernier could also observe the performance of the French 4-way juniors, who will hopefully be part of the French delegation in Slovakia. He has options, as two different 4-way junior teams competed in two different categories. The French federation has added the A Class to 4-way competition for the first time, where one of the 4-way junior teams posted their scores. Tom Mattoni's former 4-way junior team mates (Cameron Malie, Oscar Massier, Noe Mattoni) are now training and competing with Eliot Rigazio in their Aerokart Akdemie AAA Class lineup and won the national bronze medals.
