Did You Know...

... that the A Class competition had the closest finish in Roosendaal?

ISR Grand Prix 2010 winner NMP PCH HayaBusa
posted Dec 19th, 2022 - As every year, the ISR Grand Prix applied once again all four NSL categories. Teams on the AAA Class leaderboard have received the attention that they deserve, even though it is impossible to cover the complete field of teams.

The NSL News has followed the indoor event since 2010 when a total of 19 teams attended in three of the four NSL categories. The participation grew very quickly to 41 a year later, with the highest number of teams (20) in the Rookie Class.

48 teams traveled to Roosendaal when all four categories were offered for the first time in 2012. Participation passed the 50 in 2013 (52), followed by a new record number in 2014 (55) which is still the highest number of teams in the event's history to date.

47 teams still competed in Roosendaal in 2019 before the corona virus crisis stopped the ISR Grand Prix in 2020, as well as many other events. The event organizers waited two years until they launched the next Grand Prix last month. 46 teams brought the indoor competition almost exactly back to the level of the time before the pandemic's impact.

The NSL News coverage of the AAA Class competition began with the Czech/Dutch duel for the top of the 2022 leaderboard between the country's national 4-way teams, Out Of The Blue and HF Flying Circus, on November 30th, followed by more of the Top 5 teams from four different countries.

The AAA Class competition was the most colorful one with the international visitors from other parts of Europe. The rest of the field in the three additional categories were teams from Belgium and the Netherlands, with one exception on the RRR Class leaderboard, The Walkers from Italy.

Belgian AA Class winner Garudas ran away from the rest of the field with their 20.1 average, 45 points ahead of Dutch team Funky Falcon, who still had to work hard to secure the 2nd place for the Dutch delegation. The second Belgian team Black Devils finished only three points behind.

Garudas was probably the best prepared AA Class team for the comeback of the ISR Grand Prix, which was the 5th competition for the Belgian team since it was formed in September 2021. Funky Falcon's previous competition before the one this November was the ISR Grand Prix 2019 where they had posted their scores on the A Class leaderboard. Black Devils had the same comeback, after their last meet at the Belgian Indoor Nationals 2019.

The closest competition for the top spot at the ISR Grand Prix took place in the A Class. Dutch team Spare Rib Masters and Ahzoe 3.0 from Belgium featured the next duel between the two neighboring countries. They were separated by only two points after all eight rounds.

The latest Ahzoe lineup had the longest break before coming back to 4-way competition. The previous lineup attended the Belgian Indoor Nationals in 2017 before they battled with Spare Rib Masters on the top of the A Class leaderboard.

The Dutch delegation won two of the four categories this year, Out Of The Blue in the AAA Class, Spare Rib Masters in the A Class. Garudas won one title (AA) for Belgium, before The Walkers from Italy interfered with the Dutch/Belgian dominance in the RRR Class.

The ISR Grand Prix 2022 was the first competition for the Italian team. Italian event organizer Paolo Giazzi prepared The Walkers for their first eight meet rounds. He has been active for years in offering more competition for the 4-way teams in Italy.
