Did You Know...

... that the Pre-Nationals 2022 will have the same format as in the past?

Texas Convergence at the NSL Championship 1998
posted May 20th, 2022 - Participating in synchronized meets and competition draws of the NSL 4-way Network is nothing new for teams from Texas, neither for teams of the Texas Skydiving League, nor for the Indoor Cloud League team at iFLY Dallas.

The Texas Skydiving League was one of the three leagues (Florida, Georgia, Texas) that launched the National Skydiving League with the first NSL Championship in 1998 at Skydive DeLand. DeLands Genesis (Florida), Convergence (Texas) and Mr. Pink (Georgia) were invited to the league championship event.

The iFLY Dallas team joined the Indoor Cloud League in 2014, just a few years after the indoor project was launched with a monthly duel between iFLY Orlando and iFLY Seattle.

Even last year's Spaceland Houston's Pre-Nationals were a part of the NSL 4-way Network, as well, as all TSL meets have been for many years. Even the corona virus crisis could not stop 4-way teams from at least performing the same sequences on home turf and within a longer time period than only a weekend.

First Spaceland Pre-Nationals in July 2017
Six teams competed at Spaceland Houston's Pre-Nationals in July 2021, and a total of additional 23 teams from four different countries shared the same competition draw and completed the combined July leaderboard.

The format for this year's event will be the same, even though the judging procedures, with Chief Judge Randy Connell at Spaceland Houston's Pre-Nationals and InTime technology, will be much more advanced. The time frame for the event is also significantly shorter in the process of bringing Formation Skydiving competition back to a live event atmosphere.

The first international inquiries for participation have arrived with some questions regarding the format. NSL Cloud Mondial 2020 and Shamrock Showdown Cloud 2021 have been successful examples, together with the multiple NSL meet weekends in the past, how a leaderboard for all participating teams can be generated.

With the Spaceland Houston Pre-Nationals as the main part of the event, and with the purpose of offering teams a test event before the USPA Nationals 2022, there will be three leaderboards with the same categories that USPA applies at the national outdoor championships: Open/Advanced (AAA) - Intermediate (AA) - Beginner (A).

Dalles Distraction at the Spaceland Pre-Nationals 2021
Last year's three leaderboards for the same three categories are showing how the format has recently been working. The six teams from Texas found themselves surrounded by a multitude of other U.S. and international teams, in tight battles for placings on their respective parts of the leaderboards, as it can usually be expected at the USPA Nationals.

Traditionally on meet weekends of the NSL 4-way Network, the competition draw is offering additional options to measure a team performance. The randomly drawn AAA Class sequences will trickle down into the two other categories. Last year's competition draw for the Pre-Nationals had four identical sequences for teams on the AAA and on the AA leaderboards. Two of the six A Class sequences were the same as in the AA Class.

The Spaceland Pre-Nationals are in their 6th year, and the 2022 event will be a special one. Christy West and Scott Latinis launched the Pre-Nationals in 2017, and they were planning to establish the event as the same annual competition test before the USPA Nationals.

This year, many other teams will be able to use the event for the same purpose, as the logistics have been adjusted to accommodate the circumstances. All national teams for the FAI World Meet 2022 in October will also have two whole months for the fine-tuning after the results and meet experiences of the Pre-Nationals.
