Did You Know...

... that 96 male and 60 female 4-way competitors filled the horizontal Formation Skydiving leaderboards?

4th place on combined AAA leaderboard: HF Cubs
posted Apr 29th, 2022 - The NSL News aftermath of the big international events has always included unofficial leaderboards, which offer an overview of all teams that use the same competition draw. It is usually a combination of the teams in 4-way Open and 4-way Women.

The combined leaderboard of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022 was featured with the NSL News update on April 17th, when HF Cubs and Nephtys were credited for their positions on the combined AAA Class leaderboard, the Czech team in 4th place, the French team in 6th place.

There is still another unofficial third category on the AAA Class leaderboards, which does not receive any attention, even though it is by far the most popular one. 18 of the 36 teams at the indoor world cup were lineups of mixed genders, comparing to the eleven all-male and seven all-female lineups.

The mixed-gender lineups are competing together with the all-male lineups, while the all-female teams have their own leaderboard and their own sets of medals. France was the only nation in the horizontal Formation Skydiving events with teams in each of the official and unofficial categories.

Grey = All-Male, Magenta = All-Female, Yellow = Mixed-Gender
Highest mixed-gender ranking: ISR FireFlash
The French national 4-way Open Class team and Once Pakoi had all-male lineups, and the Nephtys are the national team in 4-way Women. St Flow Weembi had a mixed-gender lineup, and France also had a 4-way Junior lineup, with a 3-1 combination between the genders, three male juniors and one female.

The 4-way Junior event does not have a separate leaderboard for all-female lineups, and the all-female lineup of the HF Cubs won their 4-way Junior world championship title in 2019 over the all-male French junior team. This year's 4-way Junior winner, HF Flying Rebels, had a 2-2 combination in the lineup. France and HF Chameleons both had 3-1 combinations.

There are more sub-categories, which are not being considered for different leaderboards and don't catch much attention, even though the mix of male and female 4-way and 8-way competitors is the most common combination between the two genders.

Ten mixed-gender teams have one female team mate (ISR FireFlash, Echochamber Oceanside, Amnesya, Bronteroq, Chaotic Motion, Ayro, Windabona Angels, Shaka, Monaco Aerodyne, Phoenix), and two teams (Meraki, Aurora) have the reversed mix with one male team member. The remaining six teams (Skydive Midwest NEXT, HG Flying Circus, Out Of The Blue, St Flow Weembi, Alakran, Equinox) had evenly balanced 2-2 lineups.

The three horizontal Formation Skydiving events included 96 male and 60 female competitors. 28 of the 60 female 4-way competitors had their own 4-way Women category, while the other 32 competed with their mixed-gender lineups in 4-way Open.

Two of the three French national teams won silver medals in their respective categories, the all-male Aerokart team in 4-way Open, and the Nephtys in 4-way Women. The 4-way Junior team had no required lineup combination for their silver medals.

Two other French teams, the all-male Once Pakoi and the 2-2 combination of St Flow Weembi, had their own exciting battle in the middle of the 4-way Open Class leaderboard. Both teams had a player-coach in their lineup, who have known each other for many years.

Manu Sarrazin and Julien Degen were 8-way world champion team mates and won additional 4-way silver medals together, as well. Their 1-point battle at Airspace Charleroi was their 5th indoor confrontation since February 2019. Once Pakoi had won four of the previous duels, and St Flow Weembi tied them once at the French Indoor Nationals in March. Once Pakoi defended the top spot by one single point in Charleroi.
