Did You Know...

... that the 4-way lineups are in motion in Sweden?

Original Echochamber lineup in 2016
posted Oct 15th, 2021 - Sweden was the first European country transitioning from outdoor to indoor competition this year. The NSL News covered Sweden's national outdoor championship with the update on August 1st. The national team in 4-way Open, Echochamber Oceanside, had withdrawn from the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020, as the NSL News reported on June 22nd, and the national championship turned out to be Echochamber's only outdoor competition since the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019.

Echochamber has been going through personnel changes in the past years, which began when Martin Bäcklin stepped back from outdoor training and competition, and coach Mattias Nord took his slot. Eventually, Echochamber synchronized the indoor and outdoor lineups in 2019. Mattias Nord, Ulf Liljenbäck, Rikard Rodensjö and Johan "Smögen" Edvall competed at all events ever since.

The next change happened when Johan Edvall was injured and had to take a longer break for recovery. The NSL News reported on June 23rd that Ann-Marie Jarzebowski became the substitute, and Echochamber would decide at the end of August who will be in the lineup for 2021 and 2022.

Ann-Marie Jarzebowski competed with Echochamber at the national outdoor championship in July, which was at least Sweden's comeback to outdoor competition, even though only one other team attended the event.

It was a modified Edge lineup that posted the other scores on the outdoor leaderboard in July. Swedish citizen Ann-Marie Jarzebowski, who has been living in Australia in the past years, had company from down-under. Michael Strickland, former Rotor Out member, joined forces with Edge members Tobias Alsiö, Mikael Kaulanen and Peter Mårtensson. Patrik Nygren, who was also filming Rotor Out years ago, was on camera for this Edge lineup in Sweden.

Echochamber's Johan Edvall did not recover well enough, and the team eventually invited Ann-Marie Jarzebowski to take the full slot for indoor and outdoor training and competition. However, she had travel plans to Australia for the time after the outdoor nationals to finish up her move to Sweden.

The pandemic rules and regulations changed all the plans back and forth, and Echochamber finally competed with original member Johan Edvall at the national indoor championship. He was ready at least for indoor competition.

It was the same Echochamber lineup that trained and competed indoors and outdoors after Mattias Nord stepped in for Martin Bäcklin, and before Ann-Marie Jarzebowski joined the team. Echochamber with Johan Edvall back in the lineup completed little over an hour of indoor training with him before the indoor championship, and they still finished with an impressive 25.3 average.

Edge were also back for the indoor competition, even though they had their own change in the lineup. Original member Mats Olofsson was not available for the indoor and outdoor meets, and Mikael Kaulanen helped out at both events.

Aurora took the 2nd place behind Echochamber at the indoor competition with a new team record average, only two points short of the 20-average benchmark. Bodil Almberg, former member of Sweden's national team in 4-way Women, Team X, joined Aurora (Filippa Ebersjö, Åsah Helenius, Zoltan Hubsch) in 2020. She is the only team member with 20+ indoor experiences. Team X had won the bronze medals in their category for Sweden at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018 in Australia, after a very intensive battle for the 3rd place.

New Echochamber member Ann-Marie Jarzebowski had finished two points behind Bodil Almberg with the Australian national team Boomerang Betty. Now they are both back on the same leaderboards, this time in 4-way Open, even though Ann-Marie Jarzebowski missed the indoor championship.

Echochamber are now looking forward to more indoor training, even though they plan to maintain their outdoor focus. However, Ann-Marie Jarzebowski will be back in the lineup, and Johan Edvall goes back into recovery mode. He was still in pain after the competition. Martin Bäcklin will help out whenever Ann-Marie Jarzebowski is not available. They will be attending the FAI Indoor World Cup in Charleroi before the first outdoor training camp at Oceanside in California. Outdoor training will continue in Gryttjom, Sweden, until September. Another camp at Oceanside in October wraps up the preparations for the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2022 in Eloy.
