Did You Know...

... that Jan and Jakub Klapka joined Flying Circus forces again?

Jan - Jirina - Jakub Klapka in 2015
posted Aug 3rd, 2021 - It was in 2016 when father Jan and son Jakub Klapka competed together for the first and the last time - until the most recent 4-way competition in the Czech Republic. The Czech Outdoor Nationals brought them back together in the same lineup.

Jan Klapka's Bad Boys were training and competing together even before he launched the Czech Skydiving League in 2005 and later added the Czech Tunnel League and Indoor Cloud League events to the monthly activities for Czech 4-way teams and competitors.

His wife Jirina Klapkova has been a part of the family's skydiving activities and team projects all the time. Their daughter Klara Sotonova and son Jakub Klapka started together and trained and competed with A Class team Dropky in their early 4-way days.

The Bad Boys were the Czech national 4-way champions and the national team in 4-way Open for several years, but they never competed at an FAI outdoor world meet for the Czech Republic. Only Jirina Klapkova had her world championship experiences with the HF Czech Ladies in 2014 and 2016.

HF Flying Circus with Jan Klapka in May 2016
Jan and Jirina Klapka's son Jakub eventually joined Flying Circus at the end of the 2015 season. His new team team began with training of the A Class dive pool after two years in the Rookie Class and moved up quickly to AA Class competition.

Original Flying Circus member Dagmar Bezdeková was injured and not available for the May meet in 2016, and Jan Klapka stepped in for double-duties at the event, seven AAA Class rounds with Bad Boys and seven A Class rounds with Flying Circus and his son Jakub Klapka.

The Bad Boys won one more national championship in 2017, the only one where Jan and Jakub Klapka opposed each other on an AAA outdoor leaderboard, and then retired from outdoor competition. HF Flying Circus won their first national 4-way title next year and have been representing the Czech Republic ever since.

Five years after their first and previous seven rounds together in the A Class, Jan and Jakub Klapka joined forces again at the end of last month. Dagmar Bezdeková was not available, and Jan Klapka took her point slot, this time for the ten AAA Class rounds.

Klatovy Flying Circus with Jan Klapka in July 2021
Flying Circus had serious competition with the different lineup this time. The Dream Team was back, and Jan Klapka was opposing Sabina Cioleková in the point slot for the challenger.

Sabina Cioleková is the still reigning 4-way junior world champion of 2019 with the HF Cubs. The NSL News mentioned earlier that Jan Klapka has been preparing the complete 4-way junior team for outdoor training and competition, and Sabina Cioleková was the first Cubs member launching 4-way formations from jump planes.

The Dream Team, with Jan Klapka's former Bad Boys team mate Marián Jeziak in the lineup, won two rounds and tied two more for an 8-point difference (110 - 102) after ten rounds. As in 2016, Jan Klapka also competed with his own team at the same time (M Team) and completed a total of 20 AAA Class rounds this time.

Flying Circus have the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 on their agenda next. It will be the first time since Dubai 2012 that a Czech team will compete in 4-way Open at a world meet.
