... that Paraclete XP scores and videos for December complete the ICL 2020 leaderboard?

New ICL top challenger: ICL Midwest team
posted Jan 27th, 2021 - The 2020 leaderboard of the Indoor Cloud League is finally complete, even though it does not look much like that. The corona virus pandemic put a large hole into it, and it will probably still take a while until it looks again like it did at the end of the 2019 season.

Nothing has changed on the top of the leaderboard where Hurricane Factory and Paraclete XP keep dominating the monthly events. However, the ICL Midwest team, with SDMW NEXT members Megan George and Lauren Byrd organizing the events, joined the Indoor Cloud League only in August 2020 and won three of the five months. There is a new contender for the top spot who will most likely continue to challenge Hurricane Factory and Paraclete XP in the future.

The iFLY Seattle team had the 3rd place at the end of the 2019 season and posted scores only in January and February 2020 before the impact of the corona virus crisis halted the events, and still does. The same counts for the new Capital Region team who had joined the Indoor Cloud League in November 2019, just a few months after iFLY Jacksonville had recruited a new ICL team for the first time. Florida's iFLY Tampa team had been iFLY Seattle's duel partner for several years and appeared only sporadically on the 2020 leaderboard.

The two top teams had their own difficulties to maintain a complete scoring table throughout the year of the pandemic. Hurricane Factory and Paraclete XP both still managed to collect scores and videos for nine months in 2020. They also had to improvise and use windows where the wind-tunnels were in operation, and when participants were ready to use the opportunities.

The Paraclete XP team had to go into January 2021 to complete the December leaderboard. The Indoor Cloud League accepted delayed submissions to fill the holes that the implications of the pandemic were causing.

Morgan Womble's and Jeana Billings' efforts for Paraclete XP resulted in a very colorful internal December leaderboard. Arizona Airspeed member Niklas Hemlin has recently spent a lot of coaching time in Raeford (Golden Knights, Vega XP), and he was available in December to fill some open ICL slots.

First he player-coached Vega XP members James Hall and Ian Drennan to the first AAA/AA scores, with new SDC RhEvolution XP member Chris Webb completing the lineup. Later Morgan Womble, Jeana Billings, Kirk Verner outscored the earlier lineup, and Alex Bucevicius took the AAA/AA highscores away from his new team mate.

Niklas Hemlin also player-coached another lineup to the highscores for the A/RRR sequences. He had Cheryl Stewart, Radim Studeny and Dominic Perry in his second lineup that eventually ended up on the internal Paraclete XP leaderboard.

Paraclete XP's December team produced the highest 2020 total with 145 points. However, it was still not enough to take the first place away from the Hurricane Factory. Jan Klapka's team had used a short window in December to add 137 points to the 2020 total, which was enough to defend the top spot for another year.

However, Morgan Womble and Jeana Billings introduced two more new participants (Gavin Stuart, Steve King) to 4-way training and competition, and to Paraclete XP's ICL team last month. They have had numerous new participants month by month at their events.

Hopefully, the 2021 season will make the indoor environment more acceptable for organizers, teams and competitors who have participated in the past, and there will be stories of ICL comebacks regularly. New teams are also welcome to join at any time, of course...
