Did You Know...

... that the internet connects teams more than ever in September?

Last 7-team ICL leaderboard in February: Paraclete XP team
posted Sep 3rd, 2020 - It has been a while since all Indoor Cloud League teams on the 14+ leaderboard posted scores and videos for the same month. It was in February this year when seven ICL teams generated the fourth consecutive 7-team leaderboard. Then the corona virus crisis slowed down the participation to four teams in March, and April was the first month without any participation at all.

The Hurricane Factory was back alone in May, and iFLY Tampa joined the attempt of a restart in June. Paraclete XP had the comeback in July, and the August leaderboard now features three teams with scores and videos.

Events are still taking place in local or regional "bubbles", which has been normal procedure for the Indoor Cloud League events since its introduction. In fact, even the events of the NSL outdoor network have always been connected via the internet, and the recently announced Nationals 2.0 copies the same format of connected events on a specific weekend with a shared competition draw and leaderboard.

The August competition of the Indoor Cloud League was still a small event with three teams. However, the posted videos feature very exciting high-level competition, especially in the AAA/AA categories, and the newest Indoor Cloud League team from the Midwest took the top spot at the very first appearance.

XPG4 at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019
SDMW NEXT is leading the new ICL team, as the NSL News reported on August 31st, and the team's complete lineup posted the scores for the two 4-way Open Class categories (AAA/AA). These two sequences actually created an exciting 4-way Open Class battle between three world-class teams.

Paraclete XP's ICL player-coaches joined forces in their own team, XPG4, to take on the two 4-way Open Class sequences. The previous XPG4 lineup had still finished behind the new SDMW NEXT lineup at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2020, and the AAA/AA Class competition on the ICL 14+ leaderboard now turned out to feature a 1-point battle.

XPG4 and SDMW NEXT were facing a third top contender. The HF Cubs, who are still the reigning 4-way Junior world champions, have stepped up into the AAA Class competition, as the NSL News has mentioned regularly in the past. They matched the performance level of the two 4-way senior teams and tied their scores for the AA sequence.

HF Cubs and XPG4 members Michelle Karamon, Jena Billings and Morgan Womble have competed once at the same event. It was the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019 where HF Cubs won the FAI gold medals in 4-way Junior, while the two Airspeed XP8 members won gold in 8-way and bronze in 4-way Women, together with Morgan Womble.

XPG4 outdoor training in August at Skydive Paraclete XP
The NSL-TV camera recorded video clips of the most recent XPG4 outdoor training at Skydive Paraclete XP. However, the audience still has to wait for the team's first freefall footage. The Indoor Cloud League competition features at least more of the team's indoor performance, even though XPG4 have completed more than 120 training jumps by now.

The NSL News mentioned in the first update of the new ICL Midwest team that three lineups posted the scores for the six categories, including SDMW NEXT for the AAA/AA sequences. This update is showing that the team members were also guiding three additional lineups through some of the ICL sequences.

There is a very good chance that the same three top teams (XPG4 - SDMW NEXT - HF Cubs) will be facing each other again via the internet in the coming months. XPG4 members Morgan Womble and Jeana Billings are organizing the ICL events at Paraclete XP, with support of their team mates Michelle Karamon and Irina Meshcheryakova. Lauren Byrd and her new NEXT team mates manage the ICL Midwest events. The HF Cubs have been a part of the Czech Indoor Cloud League team for several years.

Indoor Cloud League, NSL Cloud Mondial 2020 and Nationals 2.0 will most likely connect the teams again via the internet in September...
