NSL News Coverage of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024

Did You Know...

... that three 4-way Women teams competed in the 4-way Open Class at Paraclete XP?

Aviatrixx at the USPA Nationals 2019
posted Mar 10th, 2020 - Three 4-way teams at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2020 were all-female lineups, and they all posted their scores on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard, which is a qualification requirement for international FAI events. Nevertheless, neither USPA nor USIS have adopted a separate 4-way Women category in the United States, while all-female teams compete in it at FAI events - unless they sign up for the 4-way Open Class competition.

The Paraclete XP Indoor Championship also included a 4-way Advanced Class competition for the first time, and five teams signed up. Dive pool and sequences for the Open and the Advanced Class are identical, and the qualification criteria for the Advanced Class competition is unknown.

The three teams with all-female lineups included the U.S. national outdoor team in 4-way Women, Aviatrixx, and the new U.S. national indoor team in 4-way Women, XPG4. The Paraclete XP Indoor Championship qualified U.S. teams for the first time officially for international FAI events through the USIS, while nothing has changed compared to the previous years at Paraclete, including the qualification for FAI events.

XPG4 could compete for the U.S. delegation at the upcoming FAI Indoor World Cup in Charleroi, Belgium. However, the team has no plans to travel to Europe in April, as team members Michelle Karamon and Jeana Billings also train and compete with Airspeed XP8 for the outdoor world championship this year.

XPG4 at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019
Aviatrixx qualified for this year's outdoor world championship in Tanay, Russia, as the highest-ranking all-female team in 4-way Open at the USPA Nationals 2019. XPG4 has only been an indoor team so far and did not compete at the nationals last year. Aviatrixx defeated Perris Force in Raeford for the tickets to Russia.

Aviatrixx was back with a different lineup at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship. Jill Stephenson, Christy West and Rhonda Wilcox won the qualification last year with Sandra van der Bilt in the lineup.

Former Lite XP member Katrina Autry Shows replaced her only for the Paraclete competition, and Sandra van der Bilt will be back with the team. Katrina Autry Shows is the Aviatrixx alternate.

She was in the XPG4 lineup that won the bronze medals at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019.

Her former XPG4 team mates Michelle Karamon and Jeana Billings were now the opponents at the indoor competition, and they competed with their own new XPG4 lineup that the NSL News had introduced on January 18th. XPG4 won by 14 points and are the new U.S. national indoor team in 4-way Women.

XPG4 with the new lineup at Paraclete XP
The Paraclete XP meet was the first competition for the new XPG4 lineup. New member Tamara Bartlett was also new to the AAA Class dive pool that Irina Meshcheryakova has been familiar with for a few years. Michelle Karamon and Jeana Billings brought her new team mates quickly up to the XPG4 beginning speed.

Indoor Cloud League organizer and Seattle Swift member Djordje Mandaric missed Irina Meshcheryakova at his February event at iFLY Seattle. He is hopeful that she will be back in his AAA/AA lineups. The iFLY Seattle team finished in 3rd place at the end of the ICL 2019 season and is currently in 5th place after two months.

Even though XPG4 have no plans for competing at the upcoming indoor world meet, the U.S. delegation might have a team in 4-way Women at the event. The new Air Force Academy delegation includes an all-female lineup, and coach Andy Honigbaum would like to see his teams collect international competition experiences.

He is still working on the Air Force permission and funding for the event, and the worldwide Corona-Virus troubles don't make it easier to make travel arrangements. The Air Force Angels would be eligible after competing in the 4-way Open Class, despite the finish at the bottom of the leaderboard. FAI allows four teams per nation to sign up in each category at a world cup.
