Did You Know...

... that Joey Who??? is actually Ranch 2nd Generation's Joey Marshall?

Original R2G lineup in 2015
posted Nov 10th, 2019 - Joey Who??? is actually Joey Marshall, original member of Ranch 2nd Generation, who is currently under scrutiny of Arizona Airspeed, as the NSL News reported on November 3rd. Arizona Skydiving League organizers Eliana Rodriguez and Michelle Karamon have followed up with the videos of the October competition, which are now available for reviews.

Joey Marshall and Christopher Kuhlmann were in the very first R2G lineup together and attended their first meets in the A and AA categories of 2015 and 2016.

Joey Marshall has been in the point slot ever since, Christopher Kuhlmann at outside center. Michelle Karamon joined the team as inside center in 2016, and together they placed 2nd in the Advanced Class of the USPA Nationals, still with original member Brenn Richards in the tail slot.

The same lineup, with Kamuran "Sonic" Bayrasli on camera, turned the silver medals into gold a year later and then moved up into the 4-way Open Class competition with Chris Haslam as the new tail. Result was the 18.8 average in 5th place at the USPA Nationals 2018. Joey Marshall was still in the point slot when Jeana Billings took the tail slot at the beginning of the 2019 season, and the new lineup moved up into 4th place at the USPA Nationals 2019 with a 20.1 average.

R2G lineup in 2016 and 2017
The R2G progression and potential of the team members were convincing enough for Kirk Verner and John D'Annunzio, and they recruited Michelle Karamon and Jeana Billings for the Paraclete XP8 lineup when they decided to challenge the Golden Knights last year. They won the 8-way competition at the USPA Nationals 2018, and XP8 made plans for this year.

JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz both were in the 2018 lineup and won the 8-way gold medals with XP8 at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019. JaNette Lefkowitz then decided to step back from XP8 training and competition, and R2G member Christopher Kuhlmann took her position.

Eventually, Joey Marshall was the only R2G member who did not have a slot in Paraclete XP8's lineup.

Michelle Karamon, Jeana Billings and Christopher Kuhlmann continued with training and competition in both events, defeated the Golden Knights in 8-way at the USPA Nationals 2019 with XP8 and won their tickets in the U.S. delegation for the FAI World Meet 2020.

R2G lineup in 2019
Then it was Arizona Airspeed after the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019 who had a new recruiting campaign for their point slot that Ari Perelman left open. Niklas Hemlin, Mikhail Markine and Thiago Gomes trained for three months with Matt Davidson and competed with him at the USPA Nationals and at the FAI Outdoor World Cup. Then it was time for a new member, as inside center Thiago Gomes was done after the world cup.

It was no surprise that Joey Marshall was one of the first candidates, as he had shown the same progression as his three R2G team mates in the past years. He traveled to Arizona to jump and meet with Niklas Hemlin and Mikhail Markine, and the October meet of the Arizona Skydiving League fit well for a few rounds under meet conditions.

The Airspeed tryout has created an interesting situation, where the R2G members compete for the same Airspeed slot, while Michelle Karamon, Jeana Billings and Christopher Kuhlmann have 8-way plans for 2020, as well. There would be no double duties for them at the world meet though, as Airspeed lost the 4-way tickets to SDC Rhythm XP.

Joey Marshall has an advantage in the Airspeed search for a point slot, as Matt Davidson could also go back to his inside center position. The ASL October meet was only a part of the tryouts though, as it happened under challenging conditions. Michelle Karamon was running the meet together with Eliana Rodriguez, while Niklas Hemlin and Mikhail Markine both had double duties with Joey Who??? and other participating teams. Only Joey Marshall could focus exclusively on his own point performance with Who???...
