Did You Know...

... that it's been an internal French 4-way race since 2013?

First French 4-way Women lineup at the FAI World Meet 2003
posted Jul 13th, 2019 - The French national team in 4-way Women, currently competing under Aérodyne Hauts de France, was still up by one point at the end of the first day of the Coupe de France competition.

The fact that the two national 4-way teams are training and competing together in 8-way does not take the competitive situation out of the game that occurs when they switch to the 4-way event.

In fact, it continues the same situation that the audience could follow since the main French focused began to shift from 8-way to 4-way.

It took several years until it became a competitive situation between the national 4-way teams in 4-way Open and 4-way Women in France. The skydiving federation first did not participate when FAI/IPC introduced 4-way Women at the world meet in 2001.

After the decision to support the event it took a few years until France had built up a team that was ready to compete for FAI medals at the international events.

First 4-way Women gold medals in Menzelinsk 2010: Deep Blue
The first national team in 4-way Women finished in 5th place at the FAI World Meet 2003 on home turf in Gap. There were no 4-way gold medals for France until Deep Blue (Sophie Deremaux-Boulogne, Berangere Duplouy, Francoise Simons-Hamouchi, Amélie Tirman, Stephane Mistrot Di Pachet on camera) eventually won for the first time in Menzelinsk 2010 and completed the French FS Sweep.

The earlier French national teams in 4-way Open were too strong for the all-female lineups to catch up quickly and rise to the same scoring and performance level.

Even Deep Blue was still far behind the French 4-way Open Class team when they set the foundation of international success in the new 4-way Women event for the coming years. This began to change when a new generation of French female 4-way competitors were selected for the national teams, and the extremely successful generations of male world class 4-way competitors began to slow down.

Mathieu Bernier and Julien Degen were the last French 4-way Open Class world champions to retire from 4-way outdoor competition in the national teams at the end of the 2014 season.

The complete makeover of the 4-way Open Class team with a new generation of French male 4-way competitors happened at the same time when a new generation of French female competitors entered the top level of 4-way competition, as well.

Sophia Pecout and Christine Malnis were selected for the national 4-way Women team in 2013 and won their first gold medals in 4-way Women in 2014. Clementine Le Bohec joined the highly talented French start-up in 2015, and both national 4-way teams have been performing on the same level ever since.

In fact, Sophia Pecout and Christine Malnis provided more than enough evidence of their 4-way Open Class world class performance level with the Weembi High Rollers, who are the only team that outscored NMP PCH HayaBusa at an indoor competition.

The youngest team member in the 4-way Women lineup, Clementine Le Bohec, matches this skills and talent level without a problem.

Result of the current French 4-way situation was even a recent dominance of the 4-way Women team. They have won the last three outdoor competitions, and the new lineup with Gaelle Giesen was again up by a point after Round 6...
