Did You Know...

... that learning happens outside of one's comfort zone?

iFLY Seattle's Indoor Cloud League team in December
posted Jan 4th, 2018 - The Florida and Northwest Skydiving Leagues launched the Indoor Cloud League in July 2012, and NWSL Director Deb Correia may have never missed an ICL event ever since.

She and her husband Dave Correia were on vacation in December 2017 and could neither organize nor attend the ICL December event at iFLY Seattle.

Deb Correia was prepared for the situation though, as she had worked together closely with the Seattle Swift members for a while and at many ICL events. Seattle Swift's Djordje Mandaric was once again available to help, and he offered to assist with the whole event organization this time. His three team mates Andrew Gaiovyi, Denis Pershakov and Dmitry Rudchenko were also present to help all participants with coaching and engineering.

The December event turned out to be a success, with many regular participants being given a chance to fly more challenging sequences and thus being pushed harder to do their best. Monica Aikins performed her first AAA Class sequence, and Olga Nikolova had scored for an A Class sequences only once after her time in the Rookie Class.

Organizer Djordje Mandaric was still facing an additional difficulty, as most of the iFLY Seattle team's Rookie Class participants were also not available on the scheduled ICL December date. He ended up without an eligible lineup for the R Class sequence.

Alternatively, he planned to get a group of 4-way rookies together on a separate occasion to cover the R Class sequence. The group eventually met a few days later; however, one of the participants had already scored twice higher than 25 points and was not eligible any longer. The iFLY Seattle team finally submitted scores and videos for only five of the six December sequences.

The other challenged participants in the technical categories with block maneuvers enjoyed the different approach, which was not so surprising for organizer Djordje Mandaric. He is familiar with the concept of exploring new territories as a passionate 4-way competitor: "We all know that learning happens outside of one's comfort zone."

Back in 2018: Seattle Swift at the USPA Nationals 2017
Djordje Mandaric also pointed out that the ICL December event was the first one where all four members of Seattle Swift participated as coaches. It was not only very helpful that he organized the event for Deb Correia. Several other regular player coaches were also out of town and unavailable, and the other Swift members were filling the open slots.

He also confirmed that Seattle Swift will be back for the 2018 season after the 5th place in the Advanced Class competition of the USPA Nationals 2017, one single point behind a USPA bronze medal.

Swift is eligible to win USPA's Advanced Class gold medals in 2018 and will be one of the top contenders. The Swift plans will benefit iFLY Seattle's ICL team even more in the future. Knowing that the team is going to be back in 2018 and that they are gearing up for another exciting season of 4-way competition, the December event may not have been the only time with the whole Seattle Swift lineup in player-coaching and team action.

Djordje Mandaric also reported that one of the regular ICL participants, Jerome Jeal, has moved away to Illinois and will be missed in the future. However, with a group of a few new 4-way rookies, the iFLY Seattle team is looking forward to dueling it out once again with the rest of the tunnels in 2018...
