Did You Know...

... that Parachute Montreal Fuzion won the first round in Canadian 4-way history against Evolution?

Evolution at the Canadian Nationals 2017

posted Jul 12th, 2017 - The Canadian Nationals 2017 were held in the last week of June at Nouvel Air, home of the Lemay family and the national 4-way team Evolution, FAI bronze medalist in Prostejov 2014.

NouvelAir's Catherine Carignan Levasseur was the meet director while the whole Lemay family was competing. The three brothers (Martin, Vincent, Benoit) are still competing with the same lineup that started after the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2014 in Prostejov.

Jean Christophe Ouimet replaced Katie Woods by then, and the new lineup has been competing in 4-way Open and 4-way VFS ever since.

There was no VFS competition for Evolution at the national championships this year, and the team completed only one round to win the 2017 title.

It was different in 4-way Open where Parachute Montreal Fuzion is back with the same lineup of the last three years, as well.

The Canadian national team in 4-way Women started with the current lineup (Valerie Bisson, Janylene Breton, Marie-Eve Dallaire, Renee Point) in March 2015 and competed for Canada at the FAI Mondial 2016 where they missed the bronze medals by a few points.

Parachute Montreal Fuzion at the Canadian Nationals 2017
Last month, Fuzion came closer to Evolution than ever before at an outdoor competition. Only nine points separated both teams after Round 10.

Canada's national 4-way team in 4-way Open of the last decade lost a total of 20 points due to point deductions, mostly caused by video troubles, which allowed Fuzion to be so close.

However, Fuzion outscored Evolution before and after penalties in Round 10 with a challenging sequence. This was the first time in the Canadian 4-way history that the national team in 4-way Women scored higher in a single round than the 4-way Open Class team.

Fuzion had tied only one of the Evolution scores in the past and now won Round 10 by three points after penalties and by two points disregarding the point deductions.

Both teams will probably switch their focus to indoor training and competition after the outdoor championships. SkyVenture Montreal is the host of this year's FAI Indoor World Meet in October.

Canadian teams neither attended the first FAI Indoor World Meet at the Hurricane Factory in 2015 nor the FAI Indoor World Cup last year at the Flyspot in Poland. Both teams could be in medal contention on their home turf with enough training.

4'Astrophe at the Canadian Nationals 2017
Father Michel Lemay, team founder and Evolution member until the FAI Mondial Dubai 2012, was also competing, and he had a special task.

He was entertaining the three girl friends of his three sons while they were focusing on their own Evolution performance.

Michel et ses Brus competed in the AA Class and finished in 4th place.

There was another family story, which is not new to the Sun Path Products NSL News audience. 4'Astrophe has 4-way junior Yannick Bisson in the lineup, and his career story has been covered since he entered the 4-way world when he was not even a teenager.

It used to be an indoor story, which has changed now, even though he is only 16 years young. The Sun Path Products NSL News will soon follow up with his current situation.

Father Richard Bisson competed with 4'Astrophe and his son Yannick, while his daughter Valerie has been a Fuzion member since 2014. Yannick Bisson was packing parachutes while his father also competed once again with Slim Jim...
