Did You Know...

... that Round 1 in 8-way is a world record opportunity?

Golden Knights at the World Meet 2014
posted Sep 8th, 2015 - It was the Sun Path Products NSL News story on August 25th, 2014, that evaluated the chances whether the Golden Knights would be able to break the standing 31-pointer world record for a single round that they have owned since 1997.

The topic came up when the competition draw at the FAI World Meet 2014 included the sequence M,4,1 in Round 4 of the 8-way competition. The Golden Knights are not in Teuge for the FAI World Cup 2015 after the trip was canceled on a very short notice.

The 4-way Women lineup of the US Army team and the 8-way team are not only missing the opportunity to take on the French teams in the same events. The pain of the missed event will probably be even worse after a closer look at the sequence of Round 1 in Teuge.

The Golden Knights missed the world record opportunity in Prostejov 2014 after a bad exit and would certainly be very eager to get a new chance as soon as possible. Then the judges put together the sequence for Round 1 in Teuge, and it brought back the same blocks as in Prostejov: Block 1 (Donut Flake - Donut Flake) and Block 4 (Snowflake - Inout), two of the fastest ones in the 8-way dive pool.

The additional Random Formation is a Hope Diamond (D) this time, which is a more difficult one than the Double Spider (M) was in Prostejov. However, Chris Talbert, who commented Round 1 for the Sun Path Products NSL News, had no doubt that the Golden Knights could set a new world record in Round 1 at the World Cup.

It's a sad story that the Golden Knights missed the meet, and it is now up to Russia's 8-way team or France to post a score higher than 31 points. Tanay has three former 8-way world champions in the lineups, France has eight of them. However, Clement Martin Saint Leon does not expect his team to score high enough. He said that the team had only 20 training jumps together and that the sequence comes too early in the meet. The 8-way teams are now in the air...
