Did You Know...

... that the Fire Breathing Rubber Duckies are on top of the current Rookie Class rankings?

AA Class winner by 1 point: Platinum
posted Jul 15th, 2015 - The teams of the Southern Skydiving League had the complete overall leaderboard for themselves last weekend, before a probably very large one will follow up in three days.

However, the competition at the Chattanooga Skydiving Company featured a very exciting battle for the 1st place in the AA Class between Platinum and Southern Mix.

Both teams had also competed at the SSL June meet, where Platinum had finished with exactly the same meet average and exactly the same lineup, but without much opposition.

Last weekend, Platinum had to work very hard to carry a 1-point advantage over the finish line.

AA Class horse race: Southern Mix
Southern Mix came to Chattanooga with a different lineup and two new team members. Last weekend's lineup increased the meet average significantly from 5.3 to 8.5 and created the horse race in the AA Class.

The Fire Breathing Rubber Duckies also competed with the same lineup as in May and confirmed the SSL top position in the Rookie Class with an improved meet average (9.2) after the 8.7 at the June meet. In fact, the Fire Breathing Rubber Duckies are currently on top of all Rookie Class teams at outdoor meets this year.

Two player coaches were guiding new Rookie Class teams through the meet in Chattanooga, Platinum's Bill Prout with Prop Blast and Don Hurd with Splatinum, while the Super Friends visited from Skydive Atlanta. SSL Director Brandy Verhalen said that the Georgia team will also be back for the next SSL meet.

Rookie Class leader: Fire Breathing Rubber Duckies
Brandy Verhalen reported that visiting videographer Steve Conroy helped out in Chattanoogoa and will join again for the next meet. She said that packing support was provided by Samantha Lewis, in addition to the Chattanooga Skydiving Company's packing team, and she had a short summary of the meet day:

"The meet started off with breakfast provided by the DZ, before we completed six rounds with a weather delay in the middle of Round 4. We finished up just prior to sunset."

She said that nine teams have announced their attendance of the next SSL competition on August 1st. It will be another busy meet day for her, and creeping might once again be the only activity for Brandy Verhalen. She helped with the jump preparations on the creepers when player coaches Bill Prout and Don Hurd were busy with their own team Platinum...

SCSL Skills Camp in Elsinore with coach Josh Hall
The Southern California Skydiving League was also busy last weekend, just in a different way. SCSL Director Yvonne "Yo" Owyeong reported the latest SCSL skills camp from Elsinore:

"It was a beautiful day at Skydive Elsinore and despite having to end the day early due to dust devils, we still had an awesome day and a great turnout for the Elsinore Skills Camp. This time we had four teams and each team did four jumps - one AA Class, one A Class and two Rookie Classes. Thank you Skydive Elsinore for hosting and to all of you who participated. Hope you all had a GREAT time and we really appreciate you all for coming out! Also, thank you Josh Hall, Sarah Smith and Tracy Bohm for coaching and John Legge, Itai Manor and Brian Hua for flying video. The next Meet is at Skydive San Diego on Saturday, August 1st. Also, remember to mark your calendar for the California Championship with NCSL on Saturday, September 12th at Perris!"
