Did You Know...

... that the World Challenge 2015 sets the next record of participation?

posted Mar 28th, 2015 - It is a fact by now: Paul Mayer will once again keep his record of progression perfectly clean at the World Challenge 2015. 89 teams are currently registered for this year's event, with another week to go.

Paul Mayer's goal is still the magic 100, and he is getting closer every year. He has never been so close at the 10-year anniversary, and it would take 11 more teams signing up to combine the 10-year anniversary celebration with the magic 100 party.

The World Challenge has been the biggest international 4-way competition in the history of Formation Skydiving since 2009. The World Air Games 2001 in Spain had generated 34 teams in the 4-way Open Class competition, which was the record number until Paul Mayer had worked up his indoor number to 37 Open Class teams at the World Challenge 2009. Both events had additional AAA Class participation in the 4-way Women category.

Working on his numbers: Paul Mayer
The 37 at Bodyflight Bedford turned into a 40 in 2011 and 2012, which is the standing Open Class record participation. The Mondial 2012 in Dubai generated a new record number for an outdoor event the same year. 38 teams competed in the 4-way Open Class in Dubai. 14 additional AAA class teams in 4-way Women made it a total of 52 teams at the biggest World Championship of Formation Skydiving in history.

Paul Mayer had only eight teams in 4-way Women at the World Challenge 2012, for a total of 48 teams in the AAA Class. His best total in 4-way Open and 4-way Women combined went up to 49 teams (38 - 11) at last year's event. However, history's record number of AAA Class teams at the same event is still at 52 for now - at an outdoor event. Paul Mayer currently needs seven more teams in 4-way Open and 4-way Women for a new historic record number in AAA.

However, he owns the 40 of 2011 and 2012 and is far ahead of any other indoor or outdoor competition with the new total of 89 teams at this point in time.

The latest additions to the field of teams in Bedford next week were the three teams of Skydive Dubai's delegation. Asaar Gold and Asaar Ladies competed at the Paraclete XP Indoor and Outdoor Championship 2015 just a few weeks ago and are now on the way to Bedford.

Dubai Asaar Red is back with a new lineup for the AA Class competition. Eliana Rodriguez and Craig Girard can finally focus on their jobs as coaches, as Asaar Gold has Khaled Abduljalil back in the lineup, and Craig Girard is giving up his player coach slot. Eliana Rodriguez has her Asaar Red lineup to take care of.

The winner of last year's AA Class competition in Bedford, silver medalist at the UK Nationals 2014 in the same category, Equal Pay 4 Women, signed up late for the AAA Class competition this year. There will be an interesting UK battle in the AAA/Open Class, and the Sun Path Products NSL News will get to it very soon.
